Mark, this note is for your loving daughter, Lauren, who I know meant the world to you and as you did to her.
Lauren, I just wanted to know how much that letter you wrote that was published in Readers Digest touched my life. I had it framed and pass by it every day. It never ceases to touch me and get me all emotional. It certainly has enabled me to see a more precious side of life and appreciate every moment that I have with my loved ones.
Thank you for writing that.
I pray that you will have God's peace to be with you throughout your life so that one day you will be reunited with your loving dad.

Always busting you that's dress blues were better looking. I still cannot believe you are gone. So glad I adopted the kids the first year you were gone. I hope you daughter had a blast with that easy bake oven. RIP my friend. Sending love...

This morning in a church service commemorating those lost on 9-11 each person was given a post card showing two vertical beams of light where the Trade Center once stood, with the name of one of those lost printed at the bottom of the card. Mine said Mark L. Charette. My heart goes out to you of his family--please know that you are in my prayers today.

I served with Mark on the USS Pasadena and was shocked to here of the loss. I remember sitting back in the engine room asking many questions concerning our boat and getting signatures from him on my qualifications. I know that the crew respected him alot. I've often mentioned him to my wife and two children when I'm telling my sea stories. My sympathy to his family and children. God be with you.

Although I never knew Mark, I have been praying regularly for his family for the last four years. I am a Presbyterian pastor and a PhD student at the University of Pittsburgh. On the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, I attended a memorial ceremony at Pitt, which included a field of flags: one for each person who died that day. At the end of the ceremony we were invited to take flags home with us. I selected a flag with Mark’s name on it, because he and I are the same age. I’ve displayed the flag in my church office ever since. Today I am leaving to participate in a motorcycle ride in remembrance of the victims of 9/11. I will fly his flag on my bike for the ride.
In our hearts always

I was shocked to hear Mark's name when I learned of the attack on the WTC. I knew Mark in high school. He was a few years behind me, and I just immediately recalled this tall, lanky boy with such an engaging smile and a good heart. Only good memories of him came to mind, after all of these years. I was not surprised to learn of his many personal and professional accomplishments - even in high school, at such a young age, I knew that he was a determined and disciplined individual.
I would like to extend my sympathies to his family and anyone that he may have touched in his brief lifetime. I know that we are all better people for having known him. May God hold him close.

Words can't explain the loss of Mark. I was one of the fortunate people that had the pleasure to work with Mark. He was one of the most intelligent people I have ever been around. I can't think of a person that influenced my professional life more. We traveled together, played golf, had dinner together, even smoked an occasional cigar and drank a beer together, but more importantly we were friends and for that I was blessed. I will never forget the memories of our time together.

I served with Mark on the USS Pasadena (SSN-752) in Groton Ct. He was one of those men who made going to work just a little easier, especially when others seemed be trying to make it more difficult. My thoughts and gratitude are with his family. Mark is one of many brave men and women who have kept us free.

To Mark's family:
My husband worked with Mark at J&H in the early 1990s in NYC. We drove out to Mark & Cheryl's home after their first child arrived and were given a tour of the "handyman's" work.
What I remember about Mark is all that has been said - his love for his family, his enthusiasm for his projects and work so evident and part of himself. What I carry with me and have even before the attacks has been that enthusiasm, that love for possibilities and for making things happen that Mark displayed. I was very impressed then with how he was working toward the goals he desired in a steady fashion. I loved how he loved his family. I felt a little behind the couple, newly married myself, just starting out. They were an aspiration for me and a promise of what could be.
All I can say is that those days were a blessing in their difficulty and hard work, and the days to come without him such a loss - but Mark was no stranger to difficulty. May Mark be remembered for the blessing he was now and forever. May his memory bring you strength.
I want to cry every time I think of how he showed us the house that day and how he kissed his baby girl. Please know, Cheryl and Mark's family, that we think of you and send you our support - my thoughts remain with you.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I was very blessed to have know Mark, he was my cousin.
I will always hold close to my heart the memories that I have of Mark. I will share some that I can remember.
We used to go over to my Aunt and Uncles house quite a bit. On Halloween we went out trick or treating with them.
I remember going to my Nana and Granpa's house and rolling down the hill. We spent a great deal of time over there.
I come from a big and close family, so on the morning of 9/11/01 we all pulled together and went to church and spent time with each other.
It was a horrible day, more so when we found out that Mark was in the WTC.
Cheryl, Lauren, Andrew and Jonathan, my heart and prayers are with you always.
I also remember going to quite a few basketball games at the schools where Mark and his brother Greg played. I remember yelling and cheering them on.
Mark was a wonderful cousin as well as a father, son and brother.
I have recieved so many emails from friends and people online that I don't even know saying how sorry that they are to hear about Mark. Some have also contributed to Mark's children's trust fund. Now that really touched my heart to know how good people can be.
I had a dream a few weeks after Mark had passed. I dreamt that I was sitting and I looked to my right and Mark was sitting there all dressed in his Navy suit, holding his hat in his hands on his lap. I called out his name twice then he looked over at me and gave me a smile. I looked away for a second and when I looked back he was gone.
I believe in my heart that Mark had come to me in my dream to tell me that he was okay and that we should get on the best we can with our lives. I also believe that he is with us and always will be in spirit.
I wish I could go back and spend more time with him and his family, but I can't do that, can I?
I want Cheryl and the children to know that they will always be in our family and if they need anything I am here.
Aunt Donnalee, Uncle Larry and Greg I love you all also and if there is anything you need I am here, even if it is just an ear to lend or a shoulder to lean on.
We will go on as hard as it may be and we may never understand why all this has happened, but as a family we will all be there for one another.
We as a nation have pulled together and we will continue to do so in the wake of these attacks. God bless us all.
There is a line from a Bon Jovi song which we should all go by. It is; "We've got to hold on ready or not, we live for the fight when that's all that we've got."
My tears still fall for Mark and all of the victims and their families. Maybe someday we will all understand. God bless.
