Danielle Kousoulis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2001.
Always Thinking of Others
Danielle Kousoulis was a vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald with enough fire to earn an M.B.A. from New York University while working, but her admirers say her success as a bond broker was one prism in a spirit of amazing generosity.

The youngest girl in a close family of three girls and one boy from Haddon Township, N.J., she delighted in treating her parents to a vacation in their native Greece or throwing a New Year's party for a sister sidelined by a broken leg. Ms. Kousoulis, 29, was an ardent runner and skier who had enjoyed the city's museums and nightlife since coming to work at the World Trade Center in 1993.

"She cared more about other people's feelings and other people's problems than her own," said Tricia Lippincott, a friend since kindergarten.

That love was returned. A friendship with Christopher Mills, whom Ms. Kousoulis knew from her Villanova University days, had just turned serious. Hundreds showed up at Ms. Kousoulis' memorial service. "She was the most exciting, fun-loving person I'd ever met," Mr. Mills said.

While at the memorial in support of friends who lost loved ones, I saw Danielle's loved ones with posters of her beautiful face and walking around. Please know I have taken time to read about her now and she will never be forgotten. It breaks my heart such a beautiful woman was taken along with so many others. My prayers are with all of you forever

I met Danielle through my best friend, Joey Allen, who also worked at Cantor. I had the good fortune to spend time with her on multiple occasions and get to know her through Joey. I played golf with her, John Salamone and Joey on 9/9/01 in NJ on a beautiful Sunday. All three were lost that fateful day on 9/11 and I am often haunted by the fact that just 2 days prior we were all laughing and enjoying a wonderful day together. I remember that Sunday vividly . Danielle, Joey and I drove back and forth from NYC together and we had a great day. Danielle was a special person. I had often seen her family members carrying photos of her at the memorial services and the grief they wore on their faces. I wanted them to know I still grieve for her to this day and that her memory lives on through the lives of the people she touched.

Danielle, everytime I look at a picture of you, I cry my eyes out. I can't help but think of what you would have become had that not happen. I know you would have made a wonderful wife and mother, you were a wonderful generous young women, you let others use your cell phone to call their loved ones, you were more then just a vice president of cantor fitzgerald, you were a girlfriend to chris, you were a sister to your brother and two sisters, you were a mentor to so many and a true friend and now your an angel in heaven!!!

September 23, 2012

Danielle, I never knew you personaly but you have made my world a better place. I will never forget the morning of september 11th 2001, I was 13 years old and in school and watching the events unfold was so frighting. It was almost 10 years later when I found your story and learning how generous you were, I wish I would have known you, GOD said come to me for a reason and even though it hurts to this day, you died for a reason, I was raised in church just like you were and go every sunday and I pray for you every sunday and everynight before bed. I know your dressed in the most beautiful dress and you are in such a beautiful place. There are times when I breakdown and cry and there are times I wish I were in heaven with you but then I realize that's not what you would want, I know you would want me to go on. I know GOD took you for a reason and it hurts but nothing can change how much your family, friends and even people you never met love you.
I just know GOD will let us meet someday and I can't wait to see you.
I know your birthday is coming up on the 26th so happy birthday
Always know if I could, I would go back and trade places with you, I be completely honest, I wouldn't mind going to heaven with you Danielle.
YOU WILL FOREVER BE IN MY HEART DANIELLE...

I grew up in the same town as Danielle. I was good friends with her older sister, Faith, and my 2 younger sisters were friends with Danielle and Eleni, her other sister. We all played field hockey for Haddon Township and every year the Kousoulis sisters and the Facciolini sisters would look forward to playing together in the annual alumni hockey game. We had a lot of fun together and I miss those days. I think about the Kousoulis family often. A wonderful and warm family. I can only imagine what that hole in your hearts must feel like, and pray that each year the pain gets a bit less. I am thankful for those hockey games and the time that we shared. May God Bless the Kousoulis Family and their angel in heaven, Danielle.

Hi Danielle,
I don't know you, i am from Australia and i think about the victims of 9/11 constantly.
This year i watched a memorial documentary and an American woman advised for each person around the world to pick one victim of 9/11 and find out about them.
I was scrolling through the list and stumbled across your surname. As i am of Greek heritage, I decided to pick you.
After reading your life story, i will think of you in everything i do for the rest of my life. In every dream that i accomplish i will be greatful and think of your memory. Since i was a little girl i have always wanted to get married and have children (ingrained by my yiayia & papou).
I am now 27, a successful senior accountant and still waiting to get married and have children...not so patiently anymore. :) After reading your story, i realised that you never got the chance to do these things at all and i need to suck it up and be grateful for the things that i have been able to achieve.
You are so beautiful!
I am so sorry for your family and so sorry that the world lost such a talented and kind-hearted person. I pray for you and your family. God Bless you.
I will carry you in my heart, for the remaining journey of my life.
You are forever in my thoughts
Love Courtney xx

Danielle, why did this happen to you? You were only 29 and you didnt do anything. It took me almost ten years but when I finally found your story and started reading about you I found someone to confert me, you were the kind of person who would help anyone and ask for nothing in return and even though we never met, I feel so close to you.
I love you

Derek

August 6, 2011

Danielle, I ask the qustion, why did this happen to you?
Last night, I must have spent at least a half hour talking to you, I know we never got the chance meet but I have always wanted a sister, I am the only child in my family, I was 12 years old when you were tragicly taken from us. I have seen pichures of you when you were a teenager and you were so pretty, On september 15th 1971, you were given the gift of life, and as you grew up, you made so many pepole proud of you, I know you believed in god Danielle and you thanked him. Danielle, you excelled at so many things, I learned how to swim the other day and I believe you were right beside me holding me and helping me. Danielle, I am making you a promise, if I should ever fall in love and have a daughter, I'll name her Danielle in honor of you and when she grows up, I'll tell her about you, Danielle, It didn't matter what you were dressed in, you were beautiful, I know you are in heaven and there will be a day where I get the chance to take your hand and look in your bright, sparkling brown eyes and tell you how much I love you, you will always shine in my heart!
YOUR MY HERO DANIELLE!!!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine how scared you must have been, at least you were able to reach your boyfriend Chris and I have read where we told you to just get out of there but you already knew there was know way out and I know you didn't jump, Danielle you loved life and I know you were going 2 wait till it was your time. some pepole tell me that there is no heaven, I know better then that, there is a very special place you went almost 10 years ago and it's a place I'm going to go when my time comes, it's a place called heaven and it's not that far away and Danielle, your my heaven's sent!

It's so crazy to think that 8 years have gone by since that tragic day. I knew Danielle, and her sister Eleni, as kids "growing up Greek" at St Thomas Church. She was always a sweet girl. She is the only person I know whose life was lost on that day. I remember thinking about whether I knew anyone in the towers and I suddenly remembered a brief conversation I had with Danielle at church, I believe on Easter Sunday, several years before. I hadn't seen her in years. She was so excited to be working and living in Manhattan. I think of her and her family on this day every year. I know that the pain of this loss will never go away but I hope that they are comforted by the thought that she is in heaven smiling down on them.

I'm not usually at a loss for words, but it has been 8 years and this is the first time I am able to write about Danielle. My daughter is 8 now and my son is 7. Now i can finally tell them about you and how much a part of my life and my growing you were. Now they can understand. Cecelia likes to show people your picture: she loves the one with you and my mom at my wedding. Jay Daniel knows now that his middle name is your name and he is very special because he shares that with you. You would love him: his laid back nature and silly grins remind me of you. You would tease me because Cecelia is just like me and, in some ways, she would drive you crazy! I miss you. I just miss you.

Danielle,
We never did get the chance to meet personally, but we did cross paths in another way through Andy. I think of you every September 11th and what those last moments must have felt like. It breaks my heart that you never got to get married. You never got to have a baby. You never got to celebrate your 30th birthday. You seem like such a beautiful, radiating example to those who knew you, and I'm still so devastated that your life was cut too short. There was so much left to experience. I look forward to meeting you "officially" someday. Sometimes, I think you sent NYC to me or me to NYC, however you look at it? I hope you have a light heart and a beautiful smile in heaven. I seem to think of you every year this time, so until next year...

August 31, 2009

Hey Danielle.
Not a September 11th goes by that I don't think of you. I had only met you once but I will never forget you.
My mom worked at Goldman Sachs at the time and you and her would sometimes work together on trades and deals. She would visit you at the twin towers. I remember when we went to visit them and you took us up to your office. I was about 10 then and I remember thinking that you were so pretty, especially the necklace that you had on. lol. Anyways, I remember You let me stand on the heater where you kept some of your family pictures and I looked out the window and could see everything from your office. I think it was on the 104th floor. Anyways, I just remember that my mother was supposed to meet you at the twin towers the morning of Sept 11, but my sister had her preschool orientation thing. My mother usually leaves at 6am to get to downtown by 7. I remember when the second plane struck my dad was driving my mother towards the holland tunnel and they saw the second plane. They immediately turned around and went back home. I came home from school later and saw the news that you were missing and cried. I never knew you passed away until a year later when your name passed by on the ticker tape of the one year anniversary coverage. Every year that passes by is a blessing and a curse because I have my mother yet your family is still feeling the effects of that day. It's not fair.

In the few hours that I spent with you in your office admiring the view, you were one of the sweetest, nicest people I'd ever met. Thank you for sharing that with me and my family. You will never be forgotten.

Hey Dan ~ Sunday is Greek Easter and for the first time since you've been gone we are having it at our house again. I'll never forget all the Easters we had at our house growing up and taking turns turning the lamb. Remember Pappou and Theo Costa sitting in the backyard from very early in the morning making sure the lamb was cooked properly? Now you are with them in heaven and Easter just won't be the same at our house this year without you. I think about you every day and still miss you so much. You were not only my sister, but my best friend. I hope you are at peace, and I look forward to the day when I can see you again.

Love, Eleni

Dear Kousoulis Family,

Danielle was my broker and friend for four years (1993-1997) while I worked at Sutro in San Francisco. We spoke to each other every day between 4 and 20 times depending on how many trades I was working on. I admit many of those calls were just social. We laughed often about all her egg salad sandwiches and pitas she ate for lunch.
Danielle made my job, my days and my life more enjoyable. We know how special she was don't we. It has made her loss so much more difficult for me to understand and deal with. I know you must feel the same way.
Danielle gives 9/11 great meaning and sorrow for me. I am a christian so I know I should be rejoicing for her as she is surely in heaven but there are still tears.
I will never forget her.
love, TB

To the family of Danielle, I am the sister of Joe Allen. Joe and Danielle worked together and became friends. My brother was killed on 9/11 as well, and I believe he and Danielle were together that day. My husband and I met Danielle a couple of times and thought she was wonderful. I just wanted to let her friends and family know that we are thinking of them today. We always listen for her name each 9/11 after we hear Joe's. Today is never easy, no matter how many years pass.

I still get chills up my spine reading expressions of sympathy. You were and still are a beautiful person. Looks like your smile could light up a room when you were here & now light up in Heaven. May God always have your hand & May God always bless your family and keep them safe.

Danielle and I were in the Stern NYU MBA program together. I remember meeting her in my very first class at Stern, an intro Marketing class. She also happened to belong to the same gym as I (Crunch Fitness) on the Upper West Side. Danielle was always quick with a smile and friendly 'hello' both in and outside of class. When we would occasionally run into one another at Crunch, we would chat about coursework, papers and projects due, and her intense athletic training. If I recall, she ran marathons and I was always impressed by her intense running skills at the gym. I often think about Danielle when I think of that horrible day... a young life cut short too soon, too unfairly. On this solemn day of rememberances, my thoughts and prayers go out to Danielle, and all of her family members and friends. I will always have fond memories of Danielle.

I graduated high school with Danielle and while we weren't close I remember what a nice and caring person she was.

My blessings go out to her and her family.

Although I only knew Danielle casually, it was obvious how genuine a person she was. My thoughts are with her friends and family today and every 9/11.

Dear Eleni & The Kousoulis Family,

I only learned last year of Danielle's death. I was so very sorry to hear that she had died in the terrorist attacks. My thoughts and prayers are with you still.
