John R. Almonte Sr.

I was saddened to hear of John's recent passing. I came to know him as one of his workers on the Worcester Country Club maintenance staff. He created a family atmosphere for all of us who worked there. He assembled an incredibly diverse group, some older retired people and some younger high school types like myself. I have always said it was the best job I ever had. Much of the credit for that characterization goes to John. Many people say I have one of the best lawns on Martha's Vineyard...

My condolences to you and your family. When we were in high school your family's home was a very warm place where we all gathered. Your mother and father always welcomes us as if we were all family. I have will always have very fond and special memories of knowing them.

I worked with John many years ago at Turf Products. He was a kind and caring soul and a wonderful person to be around. My condolences to his family.

Reading John's obituary brought back memories from over 50 years ago when as a 17 year high schooler, John hired me for a summer job at Worcester CC, an employment that lasted for 4 more seasons as I finished high school and college. John and Semi took me under their wings and convinced me that engineering was not my future but instead a career as a golf course superintendent. I would like to express my condolences to the Almonte family . As a young person who was a friend of his son , the Almonte’s welcomed me as a family member . John , senior , always greeted with a smile and treated all with respect . He expected respect for all in return .A wonderful person .

Reading John's obituary made me think back to the days when I caddied at Worcester Country Club. I was in school with Jr. and we had a good time talking about all the work his Dad did to make the golf course beautiful. He certainly had the gift of a green thumb.
