MITCHELL, Daniel Joseph
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2011. Dan passed away at his home in Yuma AZ, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Aberdeen S.D. on December 12, 1922 to Joseph and Elizabeth. Dan grew up working the hard life of a farmer and at a young age, left the farm to join the Army. He was proud of his service to his country during WWII. After serving his country Dan moved his family to Seattle WA where he began a 31 year career as a Greyhound bus driver. Dan spent many of those 31 years living and driving for Greyhound in Sacramento CA and has many family and friends that remain in that area. In his retirement years, Dan and his wife Buddie divided their time between Yuma and Ocean Park WA. In retirement as in his work, Dan continued to drive all over the great USA, Canada and Mexico, enjoying all of the many places they visited.
Dan will be forever missed by his devoted wife Buddie; loving daughters Cheryl and Linda (Bob) and his loving son Danny. He also leaves his much loved stepchildren, Charmaine (Leonard), Perry (Sue), Rodney (Janice) as well as many grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. Dan's cherished and much loved constant companion, his dog Tasia, will be forever lost without him.
Dan was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Gayle Dannette, his sister Leone and a grandson Brian.
The family wants to give a very special thank you to the Drs. that cared for him and also to the Hospice of Yuma, especially Tammy for the excellent and loving care that she provided for him. Dan will always be remembered for his love of his family and friends, for those beautiful blue eyes and for his expertise on any pool table or card table...he was a winner.
Dan requested no services to be held, but the family is planning a celebration of his life at a later date.
