Constantine J. Maletskos, 94, of Gloucester died peacefully on October 19, 2015. He was born in Boston, MA on September 16, 1921 to John C. and Marigo Maletskos. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife Mary (Magna) Maletskos, his sister Euthymia Maletskos of Rockport, and his son John R. Maletskos of Gloucester. He is survived by his son George D. Maletskos of Gloucester, and his daughter and her husband Ethel M. and John L. Martin of Falmouth, MA. Known as "Costa" to his family and friends, he was a devoted husband and father. He was raised in Boston and graduated from Boston Latin High School. He was accepted at MIT where he earned a Bachelors in Quantitative Biology. Costa continually reached beyond his chosen field of Physics and in 1956 he earned the distinction of being the first MIT triple PhD with doctorates in Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Costa summered on Cape Ann with his uncle, sculptor George Demetrios and aunt, author Virginia Lee Burton in Folly Cove and later settled in Bay View where he raised his family. He served in the Army in World War II. He was an accomplished scientist and a nationally recognized expert on Nuclear radiation. He was a member of several professional organizations and societies and has authored many scientific papers. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Health Physics, a member of the American Academy of Health Physics, a Fellow of the Health Physics Society, and the first recipient of the Evans Medal, the highest award of the Health Physics Society. He was also an active member of the Gloucester community. He served as chairman of the Gloucester library building committee from 1974 - 1976 which was responsible for construction of a major addition to the building. He also has served on many other town boards and committees, and has had a long association with the Cape Ann Museum. Services will be held at The Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington Street, Gloucester, at 10:00AM on Saturday October 31, 2015. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library, 2 Dale Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930 in his memory.
