Carl Weinert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2006.
Carl Weinert KINGSFORD - Carl John Weinert, 91, of Kingsford died on Monday, April 24, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born on March 23, 1915, in Hiawatha, son of the late Carl Joseph and Mary Theresia (Kaulfurst) Weinert. He started work at a very young age, working for the local dairy to help provide for his family. He married Violet Bertha Sicore in Hermansville on Nov. 18, 1939, and they have spent nearly 67 years together. Carl worked for the Groveland Mine for many years, retiring as plant supervisor in 1961. While at the mine he had many different titles and duties. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Before settling in Kingsford, he and his family lived in the Merriman area more than 50 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a great storyteller, and to say he was an avid reader would be doing him no justice. He read many thousands of books over his lifetime. He also helped build the Pine Mountain Ski jump with one of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Carl is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Violet; two sons, Carl (Judy) Weinert of Merrill, Wis. and James (Valeria) Weinert of Embarrass, Minn.; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Otto, Ozzie, and Wagner; and two sisters, Mary and Dorothy Ann. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Private family services were held. Burial was in Quinnesec Cemetery. Condolences can be expressed to the family of Carl John Weinert online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com. The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
