Mary Elizabeth “Betty� Poole
86, Indianapolis, passed away April 4, 2009 in Winter Haven, Florida. She was born January 6, 1923 to Atlee and Pearl Slentz, who preceded her in death. Betty was also preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Oldham and Barbara Jean Hogan; brother, Albert Slentz; and son-in-law, Michael Burgess.
Betty was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ (Troy Avenue), and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Prospect Chapter. Betty was Secretary to the Purchasing Agent at Lane Bryant, where she was a member of the 25-Year Club, retiring in 1983. Betty was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She and her husband, Bob Poole, celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage March 18 this year, after having known one another since fourth grade.
Left to cherish her memory and beautiful smile are her husband, Bob; son, Dennis Poole (Elaine); daughter, Becky Burgess-Osher (Joe); grandchildren, Justin Burgess, Amanda Burgess, Melissa Burgess, Amy Poole Shipp (Eric), Aaron Osher; great-granddaughters, Cheyenne Burgess, Sydney Burgess, Shelby Burgess; brother, Donald Slentz (Dorothy) and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Service: Saturday April 11, 2009 1:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington park East with calling Friday April 10, 2009 4:00 to 8:00 pm and also 1 hour prior on Saturday. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Zion United Church of Christ Camp Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
