ROGER (ROCK) M. STRAIN LITTLETON, NH Roger (Rock) M. Strain, 98, passed away on November 18, 2008. A native of Littleton, Rock was born on July 25, 1910, a son to Arthur (Peb) L. and Kia Strain, a third generation son from a family with unique nicknames. After graduating from High School in 1928, he joined his fathers business, The Strain Motor Company, an auto dealership. During World War II, he served in the Field Artillery which was followed by a return to the family business. He met and married Mary Fanyak in 1950, who was originally from Roundup, Montana. In the early 1950s, he began purchasing property on speculation using the G I Bill money to finance. It was around the early 1960s that the business he really enjoyed, land development, became a fulltime business and Strain Motor Company was closed officially in 1964. Rock was known to clear his own land for development, walking out of the woods with chainsaw in hand, plaid flannel shirt, and wearing his old hat. He continued with this right up until his late eighties. Also, he was a well-known figure at many local Littleton establishments. His low key land development style and self financing helped many first home buyers in Littletons community achieve the American dream of homeownership. Surviving family members include his sons, Arthur (Sandy) Strain and wife, Barbara; Roger (Jack) Strain and wife, Susan Forge; and three grandsons, Eric, Ian and Patrick.
