Robert Eugene Larsen, the son of Will and Elsie (Hanson) Larsen, was born August 10, 1926, in Corwith, Iowa. At the age of 12 he and his family moved to Eagle Grove where he was raised and educated. Robert was a letterman in wrestling and competed in the State Wrestling tournament. He would have graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1945, but entered the United States Navy in July of 1944 and served until July of 1946. Robert received his diploma in 2005. Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Matheson on May 6, 1948 in Clarion, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove, where Robert owned and operated Larsen Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, EAA, Eagle Grove Country Club and was active with Ducks Unlimited. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking great care of his vegetable gardens. Robert passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, Iowa at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Will Larsen and Elsie Larsen-Flowers; wife Dorothy on May 31, 2009; brother, Floyd Larsen and sisters, Norma Ingalls and Joyce Bisby. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his daughter, Anita Hammer and husband Steve of Peachtree City, GA; son, Russell Larsen and wife Teresa of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Laura Hammer of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Lubbers and husband Nicholas of Gray, TN, Krystal Opstedahl and husband Ryan and Chelsea Larsen of Sioux Falls, SD; great-granddaughters, Ally Lynn, Gabrielle and Lacy Lubbers of Gray, TN; great-grandson Preston Scott Schutz of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Lewis Larsen and wife Fern of Eagle Grove and many other relatives and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
