Donald C. Menditch

Donald C. Menditch, 85, of Newington, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Tuesday, March 06, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Edythe (Douts) Menditch for 63 years. Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, son of Nathan and Elsie (Rohrer) Menditch, he was a Newington resident since 1958. Donald was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Newington. He owned and operated Eye Flaire Opticians, in Newington, for 25 years, prior to his retirement. Proud of his musical talents, he played the trombone for several local bands, including the Sebby Papa's Orchestra. He was a member of the Masonic Sequin-Level Lodge #140, AF & AM for many years. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Don enjoyed bowling, but in his later years had a strong friendship with his golfing buddies. A loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he lived for his family, and leaves his son Bruce Menditch, and his daughter Deborah Menditch, both of Newington; three grandchildren Erin Lujan of New Britain, Bruce King and his fiancAC.e Jacqueline Hafner, and Jenna-Rae Figueroa, all of Newington; six great grandchildren Gavin King, Dinahlei, Aiyanna, Vivienne and Evangeline Lujan, Sophia-Mae Figueroa, and Sonia Frett. He leaves a host of relatives in Pennsylvania, including his niece Susan Tedford of Waterford, MI. He was pre-deceased by a sister Louise Alexander. His family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the VITAS Hospice staff for their dedication and wonderful care. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. His funeral service will be private with Rev. Cecile Koppmann officiating. He will be laid to rest privately as well, with military honors, in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
