Joan D. Turgeon

Joan D. Turgeon, 90, of Newington, passed peacefully at home on Monday, February 9, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Earl Turgeon.

Born and raised in New Britain, Joan was the daughter of the late Fremont and Elizabeth (Bennett) Barrows. She became a Newington resident in 1966, where she built a life centered around family, faith, and simple joys. Joan graduated High School in May 1952 and married Earl on May 2, 1953. Joan was employed with Stop & Save for 20 years before working at the Weathervane Distribution Center until her retirement. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington.

Joan loved roses and looked forward to annual trips to the Connecticut shoreline with her niece Sharon and daughter Donna, where she delighted in seafood, especially clams. She also enjoyed traveling, particularly visits to Myrtle Beach to spend time with her son Michael and his family. Known for her strong-willed nature, Joan's spirited personality was matched by her warm laughter and bright smile, which she shared generously with family and friends. Joan loved the music of Bob Seger and attended one of his concerts with niece Sharon. In her elder years, she was lovingly cared for in the home by her daughter Donna.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joan leaves her son, Michael Turgeon and his wife Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC; her two daughters, Donna M. Parisi and her companion Bob Kotrys, who was a special friend to Joan, and Lorraine Kulac, both of Newington; her cherished grandchildren, Jason Parisi, Jimmy Turgeon (Amanda), Bobby Turgeon (Jenn), Daniel Turgeon (Leanna), Kate Turgeon, Jenny Turgeon, Shannon Kulac (Nate), and Patrick Kulac and great-grandchildren; Landon Parisi, Aubrey Parisi, Kinsley Parisi, Jax Turgeon, Rylee Turgeon, Rin Turgeon, and Levi Turgeon, and many nieces and nephews, including her niece and best friend, Sharon Kron; her daughter-in-law, Nella Turgeon of Charlotte, NC and her adored canine companion Charlie.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lenore Turgeon; her son, Robert Turgeon; and all of her siblings: Vivian Kron Crabtree, Ann Mitchell, Bobby Barrows, Eddy Barrows, Jimmy Barrows, Liz Carbone, Rita Dufini; as well as her adopted brother, John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 17th at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit 183 Church St., Newington. She will be laid to rest following the mass in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
