Walter A. "Sonny" Edwards Jr.

Walter A. "Sonny" Edwards, Jr. of North Charleston, South Carolina, loving husband of Loretta Zorn Edwards, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 12, 2013 . A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, July 15, in the Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm . Sonny was born November 3, 1932 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Walter A. Edwards and Clarice Rantin Edwards. He was drafted into the Army at the age of 20. After his military service, he and Loretta were married on February 14, 1958. Sonny was a plumber and pipefitter for over 50 years, and a member of the Local Pipefitters Union #470. He was also a life member of the Charleston Rifle Club. Throughout his life, Sonny enjoyed fishing, bowling and shagging to beach music. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone, and touched the lives of everyone he met. Sonny will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his daughter, Terri Edwards Pye and her husband John of Cordesville, SC; his son, Walter Artie Edwards III, also of Cordesville, SC; his brothers, Thomas I. Edwards and his wife Kathryn of Isle of Palms, SC, and Larry R. Edwards and his wife Betty of Memphis, TN; his sister, Vermell E. Brown of Goose Creek, SC; his grandson, Walter A. Edwards IV, two granddaughters, Shannon Fillis and Whitni Edwards; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for their outstanding compassion and care.
