Peter Edwards Nightingale

Peter Edwards Nightingale of Darien, CT, died in his home on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014. He was 60 years old. Peter was born on December 1, 1953, the son of Stephen Edwards Nightingale and Sally Lord Nightingale. Peter was the middle of three brothers, including his older brother Stephen Lord Nightingale and his younger brother David Cleaves Nightingale. Peter grew up in Darien, CT and attended the town's public schools during his childhood, before attending The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT, from which he graduated in 1972. He later attended and graduated from Brown University (as a member of the class of 1976) and the New York University Stern School of Business. After meeting and dating in New York City, Peter married Kim Jaqueline Cummings on October 20, 1979 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Peter was a banker for the entirety of his career, working for a number of different institutions and in a number of different roles. Peter began his career with Manufacturers Hanover Corporation in New York City. He later worked for Chemical Bank in both London and New York City, Chase Manhattan Corporation in New York City, FleetBoston Financial in New York City, Bank of America in New York City and finally NewStar Financial in Darien, CT, where he worked from 2007 until his passing. Additionally, Peter served on the Board of Directors of Ring's End, Inc. until his passing. Peter loved the water and sailing, and was a lifelong member of the Noroton Yacht Club in Darien, CT. In his later years Peter developed a passion for golf and was a member of the Silvermine Golf Club in Norwalk, CT. Peter served as a member of the Board of Directors of Person-to-Person, Inc., a charitable organization in Darien. He was also an active member of the congregation at St. Luke's Episcopal Parish in Darien. Peter is survived by Kim, his wife of 34 years, and his two sons, Andrew and Scott, both of whom live in New York City. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Parish, 1864 Boston Post Road in Darien on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11 am. Peter's family will also be holding a wake from 4 – 8 pm on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road in Darien. Peter's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Person-to-Person, 1864 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820, or to Darien EMS Post 53, P.O. Box 2066, Darien, CT 06820.
