Robert R. Billups age of 90 died after a brief illness on May 7, 2014. He is survived by 5 children – Michael Billups, Katherine Leary, Joyce France, Patricia Billups, and Christie Billups, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren who lovingly called him G.G. and 5 siblings. He was also loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Born on October 28, 1923 in Burlington, VT, Bob served in World War II, and married Phyllis Leary (1925-1986) in 1948. He received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT and a Master's degree in Physics from Boston University. He ultimately spent most of his career doing research at MIT; 4 of those years were spent on Kwajalein Island in the Pacific. After spending most of his adult life in Massachusetts, Bob enjoyed his final years in Sarasota, FL. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Robert's life on Friday, June 6th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Fowler Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard, MA. His funeral mass will be celebration on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 10 Church St., Westminster, MA. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Gleasondale Road in Stow, MA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of Bob's favorite charities: Noté Karacel Uganda – www.notekaracel.org – a non-profit (501(c)3), founded by his daughter Christie, providing clean water, education, and health care to a mission in Uganda. Faithful Fools – www.faithfulfools.org – 501(c)3 - a caring community that walks with homeless persons on the streets of San Francisco. Tidewell Hospice – www.tidewell.org – the caregivers in Sarasota who accompanied Bob and his family in his final days.
