Richard J. Janicki

Richard J. Janicki, 83, of Newington, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Hospital of Central CT, New Britain. Born in Poland, son of the late Janusz and Wanda (Kucharczyk) Janicki, he was a longtime New Britain resident and member of Sacred Heart Church. Richard attended the Royal Naval Academy in England and then honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a hospitality manager in various hotels in New York and CT for many years. A loving and devoted brother, he leaves his sister, Zofia Strycharz and her husband, Kazimierz of Newington with whom he made his home. He also leaves his nephew, Edward Strycharz and his wife, Carol and their children, Catherine and John all of Wethersfield; cousin, Richard Janicki and his wife, Irene of Unionville and many cousins in Poland. His funeral service will begin on Monday, at 8:45a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
