Lee Peterson Obituary

Published by Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home on Dec. 4, 2008.
Lee E. Peterson, of Malden, formerly of Montana, passed away on December 4, 2008. He was 45 years old. Born in Red Lodge, MT, Lee graduated from Bridger High School in 1981 and went on to Montana State University where he earned a degree in chemical engineering. Lee moved to Boston after college to pursue his career in the biotech industry. His career began with a position at BioPure, and most recently, he worked for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Andover. He also earned a microbiology and biochemistry degree from the University of Washington in 2003. Lee loved to travel. He had taken numerous trips across country, and also traveled overseas to England and Scotland. His favorite travel destination was someplace new, as he was always eager to sightsee. He felt that the best way to sight see was to do it by foot, to really get a feel for your surroundings. Lee also loved the surroundings of his garden. He enjoyed landscaping and filling his garden with numerous tulips, irises, roses and herbs. He enjoyed reading a good book and listening to classical music, but was most comfortable spending time with family and friends. He loved to laugh and engage in intellectual conversations. He did not enjoy being the center of attention. Instead, he would rather sit back, and enjoy everyone. Lee was the loving son of Leo and Beulah (Brown) Peterson of Red Lodge, MT. Dear brother of Linda Rand of Three Forks, MT, Dianne Peterson-Tuell of Billings, MT, Lowell and his wife Lou Ann Peterson of of Belfry, MT, Lyle and his wife Karla Peterson of Hathaway MT, and Brenda and her husband Steve Carlson of Dedham, MA. Lee was the cherished uncle of Dixie Armstrong, Tracy Morris, Michelle Noack, Ben Rand, Trish Tuell, Sonya Oyler, Justin Peterson, Grant Peterson, Jess Peterson, Clint Peterson, Jerrilynn Peterson, Landon Carlson, Lindsay Carlson, and Luke Carlson. Visiting hours were held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home 8 Spring St. (at the corner of Centre St.) WEST ROXBURY. At Lee's request, please make contributions in his memory to the National Brain Tumor Society, 124 Watertown St. Suite 2D, Watertown, MA 02472 or to the NPR Foundation, 635 Massachusetts Ave N.W. Washington D.C. 20001. A funeral service will be held in Montana.

I just found out about Lee's passing and wanted to extend my thoughts, sympathy, and prayers to his family and friends. Lee was an incredible person who loved life and cherished his family. He loved to travel and talk about his excursions; or talk about anything for that matter. I am glad I had the opportunity to get to know him. Lee will be missed.

I worked with Lee for a landscaping company in Seattle for several years. He was one of the hardest working and most intelligent people I've ever met. He became a close friend to both my wife and I, and we spent many dinners, movies, and even a few holidays together. While I'm overwhelmed with sadness, I'm so thankful to have had Lee as a friend. His kindness and intelligence made the world a better place. My wife and I express our deepest sympathy for his family and friends.

I met Lee on the company shuttle. I'll never forget his humorous description of the claustrophobia he felt when he moved to Boston, and how it took him "pretty close to three months" to overcome it. How can I forget his vivid descriptions of his beloved home state?

I worked with Lee on and off at Wyeth. I found out later that the woman at the front desk of my office purposely called me when he came to the window for something and I always thought he had asked specifically for me!! They knew I loved his blue eyes and his sense of humor and the thoughtful way he did his work. I will always remember Lee. My condolences to his family for their sad loss.

Lee was a gift to our community. I only knew him to speak casually as I walked past his home, admiring his stunningly beautiful garden. He was always gracious, kind and shared a witty observation or just a warm hello. It touched my heart to witness the loving care and devotion of his family and friends. You were, and continue to be, in my thoughts and prayers.

Lee was one of the first people I met when I started my job. He was a talker...we rode the shuttle together (usually the first shuttle out and the last shuttle back). I wanted to nap, he didn't care! He'd talk about ANYTHING: deisel powered jettas, history, how he was "pretty good" at riding a horse, why I don't have a gym membership. So, thanks to Lee, I have a $9/month gym membership because he signed me up under his friends and family plan. When he did anything he put his entire self into it. Such a life...such a loss. He will be missed.
