Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Nov. 18, 2014.
John S. Nowicki, Jr., 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 18th, in San Antonio. John was born in Detroit and graduated from Hamtramck High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Administration from Michigan State University where he met and married Katherine (Kay) Simmons. Shortly after graduation, he was inducted into the army where he obtained his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. His World War II service began in England and concluded in Berlin. He later served with the occupation forces in Berlin and Munich. His military career included Military Police, Military Government Public Safety, Counter Intelligence, and Air Defense. After serving with the US Army Air Defense Board at Ft. Bliss, he retired from the military in 1966 and he and Kay built a home in El Paso. John worked for BDM International for 17 years as an Associate Manager of Advanced Analysis first in El Paso and later in Albuquerque. In 1984 John and Kay returned to their home in El Paso until Kay's passing in 1991. John relocated to Albuquerque in 1992 to be close to tennis and handball companions and BDM colleagues. In 2003 John moved to San Antonio to be close to his children and grandchildren and to compete in national handball tournaments where he was ranked in the 80+ age group. John was preceded in death by his wife, Kay and brother, Eugene. John is survived by his sister, Irene; two sons and their wives: John III and his wife, Liz and Michael and his wife, Tracey; and five grandchildren: John IV, Katie, Shayna, Hannah, and David. A graveside service will be held in Lawrence, Michigan, in the Spring.

John and Kay were good friends of mine for many years, playing tennis and enjoying the community in which we lived. I still miss them both, but had lost contact with John after he moved to SA.
My condolences to all. Jan Summers
