Mr. Colwyn Samuel Krussman

Colwyn Samuel Krussman, 81, passed away peacefully, on November 25, 2016, at The Lorelton, Wilmington, Delaware. Sam was a native Wilmingtonian, born in February 1935. He was son of the late Waldemar and Charlotte (Cochrane) Krussman. He graduated from Wilmington High School, and received his Bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Delaware. Sam was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and studied European history at the Universities of Berlin and Munich. After returning to the states, he started his masters' studies at the University of Minnesota. After graduating from UD, he married Marilyn Sturges in 1957, and was happily married for 59 years until his passing. Sam and Marilyn lived in Germany, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and New Jersey before moving back to Wilmington to own/operate the Greenwood Book Shop on 9th Street. Sam also worked as a publishers' representative for the Oxford University Press and Parson Weems. In addition to being a lifelong learner, he was active in his community, devoting time to Sisters Cities, Delaware Preservation Society, Delaware Historical Society, and Old Swedes' Church. Sam was a great father and a wonderful Opa. He always put his family first, and above all, he was a loving husband. Sam is predeceased by his parents, Waldemar and Charlotte; sister Mary Louise; brother Waldemar T.; and survived by his wife Marilyn; and sons Eric (Marit), Fritz (Wendy), and Rodger (Christy). He will also be dearly missed by his five grandchildren – Bryant, Justin, Jenna, Megan, and Jens – as well as many other relatives and fantastic friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude and appreciation to those who showed Sam love, kindness and support during his stay at The Lorelton. A private interment service will take place on Saturday, December 3. A public memorial service is planned for 11am on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Old Swedes' Church in Wilmington, followed by a reception at the Christina Cultural Arts Center.
