I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Kearns the summer she and her husband bought their place at the beach. She had a wonderful personality and you could tell she absolutely loved life. I just learned of her passing and my deepest condolences go out to the family.

I have felt sad all day knowing that Jo Ann is no longer with us. I taught next door to Jo Ann at Hertford Grammar in NC. She made teaching fun! We shared ideas, laughter, and tears as we worked hard with the children in this rural school . Jo Ann was passionate and was an excellent teacher.
My heart aches for you,Marshall and your adorable daughters. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Carolyn Peel

Jo Ann and I were friends in middle school and high school. We spent hours jumping on her trampoline and playing pool in their converted garage. She was such a funny, sweet and kind person! She played the harp at my wedding, and that is a great example of the sort of presence she was for me, always adding something reassuring to a situation and asking for nothing in return. I was happy to see what a loving family she had with Marshall, Ann Reagan and Cooper, and am so saddened that her life was cut short.

Jo Ann Kearns was a sweet and loving person, adored by all she met. I loved getting to know her at college and spending time with her after that. Teaching was a great fit for Jo. She was patient, understanding and carried with her a sense of wonder and bemusement about the world. She married her soulmate, Marshall, a wonderful fellow who is loyal, smart and true. Together they built an amazing family and a fulfilled life. Ann Ragan and Cooper shared a special bond with their mother that will always be with them. We all have to carry on, remember the good times -- and live by the same spirit that Jo Ann did.
