Peggy Marie DeVries

Peggy Marie DeVries, age 64, of Sturgis, MI passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell, MI. She was born July 25, 1952 in Norway, MI a daughter to the late Carl and Thelma (Califf) Warner. On November 13, 1976 in Niles, MI she married Ronald L. DeVries. He preceded her in death November 1, 2002. Peggy grew up in Amberg, WI, graduated from High School in Wausaukee, WI, and moved to Sturgis, MI in 1968. She worked at the Wood Inn Restaurant in Sturgis and also at the Glabman-Paramont Company for 14 years. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and especially Jeff Gordon, watching baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, enjoyed traveling around to the local race tracks, enjoyed sewing and cooking, and was known by many as "The Fudge Lady". Surviving are one son: Mike DeVries of Sturgis, MI; 3 step-sons: Randy (MiChelle) DeVries of Sturgis, MI, Brian DeVries, and Scott (Tracy) DeVries both of Grand Rapids, MI. 4 step-grandchildren: David, Lee, Byron, and Joel. 1 sister: Shirley (Paul) Hadden of DesPlaines, IL. Her best friend: Mickey Smith; special niece: Bonnie (Danny) Pagel of Baraboo, WI, special nephew: Keith Warner of Jupiter, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: James and Charles Warner, 1 sister: Janice "Kay" Theissen, brother-in-law: Bob and Beverly DeVries, and a niece: Bonnie DeVries. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service celebrating the life of Peggy DeVries will be held at a later date to be announced at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 9, Sturgis, MI 49091, who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
