I am sorry for your loss, which is our loss as well. I am Dean of Students at UNC and, although I did not know Scott personally, I have heard about his big heart and unique way of making others feel special. One faculty member said, "Scott was such a bright light and wonderful student." And "He wore his UNC sweatshirt all over the world with his community work . . . He loved UNC and the program." Clearly, his cohort of students and faculty loved him as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

On behalf of the WASC, we want to share our deepest sympathies for the loss of Scott Miller. Scott's legacy will continue to live on in the students and staff he inspired during his involvement at the WASC. He was an incredible mentor, advisor, and champion for young people across the country. In Scott's honor, the WASC will be making a contribution to the Donald C. Larsen Scholarship Fund.

I remember Mr. Miller as a kind soul. Always welcoming to a student in need of encouraging words, a lesson taught, a guided hand. I am saddened to hear of his passing. He wasn't just a teacher or principal, he was a friend, a mentor. He will be greatly missed by many! He touched the lives of everyone he met along his journeys with his wise and kind words. RIP Mr. Miller.

Scott Miller was a welcoming smile to all who met him. When I joined the Middle School in Whitefish Bay, not only did he guide me, advice me, but he became my friend and my support. A magnet for the students, a favorite to talk to, a mentor, a model, someone to talk to, someone to cry with, always there to encourage everyone and to provide wisdom. Always had children first, given then chances and opportunities to excel, not brakes like others thought. A leader, in every aspect. An amazingly ng humanitarian and the best example of understanding diversity. Learn other languages and enjoyed practicing them with young and old. Always at the musicals, at the concerts at all the student's activities follow by the students everywhere.
Gone too soon, with dreams and potential to change so many more, taken from all who love him. May he RIP and never be forgotten. I will miss you for your smile, your charisma, your example, your friendship and because you truly made a difference in every child you met!

Scott was an instant inspiration when I first met him through WASC, his positive influence and impact on others was immediately clear. Even though our paths took us in separate directions, we still kept in touch occasionally, and his enthusiastic love of life, and of all people he encountered, was apparent and contagious, each time we corresponded. Reading the many wonderful memorials and reflections, and recalling our times together, inspires me to continue to try to be the best person I can, in Scott's memory. My deepest condolences to the family.

I had the distinct pleasure of working closely with Scott at the WASC Leadership camp for two years back in 1996 and 1997. I cannot believe he is gone. My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. Scott had a phenomenal sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He made a huge impact on my life during a very difficult time. I will miss him.

Scott Miller was such a special human being who made a difference to so many. To this day, I remember how he instilled the idea in me that people are more important than things. That lesson comes back to me daily.....no exaggerating. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to cross paths with him, learn from him, be encouraged by him and laugh with him. Nikki, Jodie, Kayli, and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I like many others knew Scott as a teacher. When in High School he taught all three of my children how to swim. Not only did he teach them how to swim but how to be brave and enjoy life. Scott you will be missed by so many on the face of this earth. You were truely blessed with a gift from God! May you finally find peace!

Clearly, Scott leaves this world having made a difference in many lives, including mine. He believed in me, and I'll always remember and be grateful to him for that. He was someone who really devoted his life to helping other people grow and move out of their comfort zone - especially kids. He had a gift for reading people and encouraging them to be the best they could be. He did it not just in Wisconsin but at his international schools. He seemed to always really live life. One time he brought his exchange student from Prague to my house around Christmas. The exchange student played a Christmas song with my young son on piano. It was a cool moment (that Scott made happen) to always remember. Scott made time for people, amidst all of his interests. Knowing Scott enriched your life, in ways like this. His sense of humor was tremendous, as well. For example, I've never had any other boss but Scott bring snow inside and put it down my back...while I was painstakingly working on report cards! He was one of a kind and a breath of fresh air. I greatly respected his philosophy of education too. He will be greatly missed. It is hard to believe this is real. However, I believe God has His hands on this one too. This is hard to comprehend and understand, but one can honor his life by living life to the fullest. My prayers to Scott's family.

Mr. Miller was the first person in my life who gave me permission to take myself seriously. He was there during those integral moments from kid to teenager. He let me know I had real ideas, strength, and abilities. He didn't just teach the subjects he taught us to open our minds, our hearts, and that being genuine was important above all. I can't believe he is gone. It never dawned on me at age 11 that Scott was only 12 years my senior. It is now doubly amazing that he could do what he did with such ease. We all believed him, we were afraid to disappoint him, but new if we did he would still have our back. He was a special man with a special gift. Although it was all too short, his was a life well loved. Love to all who mourn him and especially his family and friends.

I, like many others, am one of the students who's lives were forever altered by Scott. My memories of him are many, from his infectious smile and laughter to his energy and enthusiasm for his role in shaping his students, which were truly his life. His songs and energetic entrance to every student gathering in the gym or auditorium got all of us excited, for what would otherwise be a dull experience for a bunch of kids looking forward to lunch instead. Outside of class hours he dedicated himself to spending extra time with the students who may be having scholastic, personal or family troubles. He truly cared, and stayed in touch with us decades after leaving Whitefish Bay. I think all of us have tried to put into words the kind of man and teacher Scott was, but there are no words, he was one of a kind. He not only made us better students, but unquestionably he made us all better people. He will be missed dearly. Rest in peace.

Scott was my English teacher in 6th grade at Whitefish Bay Middle School. He used to invite some of us over to rollerblade in his basement. I didn't know until college that I had a learning disability but I think Scott picked up on it. He taught us songs to identify parts of speech and encouraged me to makeup my own songs in other classes as he saw how successful they made me in his class. We communicated a bit in the past few years; he would reach out and ask me about my medical conditions and my Lyft driving. He was a great educator and loved by all. His legacy lives on the hundreds of students that he had and in his family.

There is so little that can be said to heal the heart, at such a time when someone who has done so much, for so many has been taken. God's plans are not always understood, but much like Scott you need to make the most of your life. Fill it with the love and compassion that Scott, oblivious did, to impact the lives of so many. We are sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We are here if you need anything John.

My Horicon High School memories are so intertwined with Scott. I will never forget Damn Yankees! More recently Scott was always sending me support from afar. I could always count on his insight whenever I posted a trial or triumph about my daughter with a significant disability. It meant a great great deal to me. He also sent me resources and ideas. He was a master teacher and I so appreciated how he valued my daughter's learning even though he had never met her. I cannot express what this means. I am very affected by his passing. He was an extraordinary person

With great sorrow I write this to Scott's family, former students and colleagues. I had the pleasure to work with Scott in his first years, when he was the musical director at Whitefish Bay Middle School. He loved his students, the chance to give them a new experience in theatre and share a love of the arts. He taught his students that hard work builds character and that your success
is built on excellence. My deepest sympathy to his family. He will be remembered by all that shared his laughter and smiles.
