My daughter Caroline ( Shelton ) is a year younger than Steven. She has said since learning upon this that Steven was one of the "good guys". My son Chase (24 yrs old), a ballplayer like Steven, didn't really know Steven well but has said in the past he did know Steven was a really good young ballplayer. Baseball players it seems always know at least a little something about fellow ballplayers whether they are younger or older. Me being a Pineview and BC baseball dad for many years I have heard Steven's name brought up quite a number of times as a one of the promising young ballplayers on the rise. I understand now that Steven was much more than an athlete. My understanding is he was among other things engaging, bright, and very likable. All that is evident by just the sheer number of friends Steven had. It's apparent he was friends with everyone. I can't imagine the grief Steven's family must be experiencing right now. Losing someone so loved, so prematurely, who was so lovable to all may be the hardest thing a person would ever have to face in their lifetime. A whole community is hurting tonight for Steven and his family. Our community is hurting because we know the Haymond's have got to be going through incomprehensible grief and disbelief. So many people want to genuinely help the Haymond Family in any way they can. The Haymond Family will not be alone during this their most tragic time. This community will never abandoned the family of a young man that was so loved.
My thoughts are with you guys, the Haymond Family. I am very sorry to learn about your tremendous loss!

I was Steven's weight lifting teacher his senior year. Steven was one of the ones who liked participating in class. I know that silly goofball will be missed. He cracked me up daily with some of the things he would come up with. I am so VERY sorry for your loss. I know words cannot help right now but I wanted to share my memory of Steven with you. There are no words for a loss as deep as this. Steven was my daughter, Hadlea's, first love and I will always hold a special place in my heart for him.
