John Clifford Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Feb. 27, 2018.
John Edward Clifford, age 82 and fortified with the sacraments of the Church, passed into the loving arms of God the Father on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 21, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Louis Clifford and Patricia Sloan. John received a B.S. from John Carroll University; a M.A. from St. Louis University, and a PH.D from Michigan State University. John met his wife, Nancy Krupinski, at St. Louis University and they were married on July 4, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful daughters, Bridget Marie, Christine Marie and Kathleen Marie. John was a professor of Theater and Speech at Loras College in Dubuque Iowa and Murray Park College in Adelaide Australia. He was the Director of the Theater Department at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. John's book, Educational Theater Management was one of the first books on the subject and was published in 1972. After retirement in 1983, John started his own company, Compudance, which included the development of computer software for dance studios to manage their businesses. His business flourished in the states, Canada, Europe and Australia. He sold his company in 2007 and began his second retirement so he could devote time to relaxation, travel, and gardening. Through this lifetime, John was involved in the Catholic Church as an altar boy, lector, Eucharistic Adorer and member of the Bible study classes. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law; his daughter Christine, and his grandson Brett. John is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Clifford; daughter, Bridget (Brad) Sharp; daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Boucher; granddaughter, Brittney Boucher; grandson, Shane Boucher; sister, Donna O'Donnell; brother, Tom Clifford, and brother-in-law Mark Krupinski as well as many nieces and nephews. John will also be missed by his friends, neighbors, and especially his friends from the Bible Study Classes at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. John was known as Dr. Clifford to his students, Mr. Clifford or "Sir" to others, but his favorite titles were "Dad" and "Paw Paw". John was a loving husband, great father/father in law, and outstanding grandfather. May our Heavenly Father receive and reward this faithful son, John for a job well done! The family will hold a Rosary for John at Porter Loring North on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. MASS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2018 10:00 A.M. HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH 20523 HUEBNER ROAD Monsignor Mike Yarborough will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Catholic High School or Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Dr. Clifford was a wonderful teacher. He built people up...he never tore them down.

Dr. Clifford was a great teacher and he truly cared about the students. He was one of my professors at SWTSU from 1979 -1980. I will always remember how kind he was and how he brought out the best in people.

Mrs. Clifford,
I am so sorry to hear this news. My favorite memory of Dr. Clifford is when he read the Passion on Palm Sunday. We always made sure to go to "his" Mass. Other readers were not the same.

Sir was a shining example in my life of integrity and what it means to live the faith on a daily basis.
I learned a great deal from him, both in the classroom and the neighborhood.
He is missed. I will never hear a good pun (or a bad one) without thinking of Sir and wondering what rating it would get on his pun scale.
Sir shared with me his love of OTR and I will always remember him when I listen to Jack Benny or others that I know he enjoyed too.
I will always be grateful for the blessing that Sir was in my life. He will always be remembered in thoughts and prayers . Life for us now is "changed, not ended" he always told us to "Carry On" and so, we follow his example and pray for him and know that his prayers will assist us one day to the joys of eternal life together.
Love & prayers for Sir and all the family always.

Dear Clifford Family,

I only know John through his beautiful daughter Bridget, but I can say with certainty, that he must have been a person of impeccable integrity, unshakeable moral courage, and a deep and total love of God and God's people. I was blessed to see in Bridget all of these characteristics John imparted to his family and lived every day.
My prayer for all of you is that you find courage, comfort and peace as you journey through your grief.

I met John Clifford when I started bible study at Holy Trinity eight years ago. We both share the name John so the bible study group called him John The Elder. We think differently and we're able to challenge each other's thoughts very logically. John had an approach to scripture similar to John The Evanglist using lyric like reason to prove his point. I preferred the more direct challenging approach of John The Baptist. We both grew to be better in our faith through our sharing.

God Bless your soul and family!

Sir, as I always called him, was a man of honor and faith. Through difficulty and sorrow he held tight to the Cross of Christ and reflected the Light of the Resurrection to his family and friends. He was steadfast in his love for his family and always ready with a helping hand to those who turned to him. It was my great joy to call him a friend and a mentor. I have always cherished the memories of cooking BBQ Chicken with him for the SMHS Band when Christine was Drum Major (and I was the "help from next door"). All night we'd be out there stoking fires so we could shovel hot coals under the grills. My happiest memories are of spending evenings with him watching "Nero Wolfe." First, as a kid when it was on in the 80's and then again a few years ago when we watched the A&E series together. He even found video of the old version we watched together so many years ago. Precious memories of wonderful times spent with "Sir" and his family. May our Good Lord receive him into the glories of the Kingdom without delay where he, and Christine, and Brett can sing the glories of the God he loved and served. My love and prayers to Nancy, B & Brad, Kack & Mike, Brittney & Shane. We live in the hope of Christ's promise for those who Love Him, Sir love Him and served Him well. Pax et Bonum -
