Edna Viola (Melby) Hull was born October 30, 1921, to Adolph and Lena (Evenson) Melby near Moorhead, Iowa. On March 5, 1940, Edna married Leo Dale Hull. The couple farmed in the area. Leo died on September 29, 1998. In October of 2015, Edna became a member of the Dunlap Specialty Care. The kindness of the caregivers will be eternally appreciated. Edna was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church; after her marriage she became a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. Edna was always a true Melby and a Norwegian. She loved to do puzzles, buy new clothes, go to casinos and shop. Edna was an extraordinary mother and farm wife. She was an excellent cook and baker who prepared many meals for neighbors that helped with corn shelling and putting up hay. She always made sure all seven kids had three full meals a day. Caring for flowers in her yard, decorating her house and preparing food for all the holidays while singing or yodeling were some of her greatest enjoyments. Edna and Leo traveled extensively especially during their retirement years. They traveled in an RV with Leo's sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Ed and Hazel and Art. They visited every state except Hawaii. Leo and Edna witnessed the historic "Challenger" explosion while visiting Cape Canaveral, Florida. Edna died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Dunlap Specialty Care at the age of 96 years, four months, and 18 days. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Hull; son Ronald Hull; two daughters-in-law, Suzan Hull and Carol Hull; five grandchildren, infant granddaughter, Leo Arnold Hull, Eric Houston, Kimberly Meadows Nordaker and Mathew Meadows; and 12 siblings. She is survived by six children, Jim Hull of Bloomington, MN, Judy (Steve) Houston of Moorhead, IA, Linda (Tom) Pithan of Ute, IA, Nancy (Phil) Meadows of Onawa, IA; Debra Hull and George (Gina) Hull all of Moorhead, IA; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lucille Hull of Denison, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Aunt Edna never failed to laugh at something each time I saw her. She turned out some great children, that's for sure. But Edna didnt let the bumps and trials of life get her down. Always a welcoming smile, her little giggle or laugh.

May she now enjoy her reunion with Leo and Ronnie in heaven.

Love ya, Aunt Edna!VQNP8

So sad to hear about Edna. I remember her laugh. When I was real little, I remember Leo taking me on my first tractor ride. For a city girl, that was pretty cool. Part way in, sitting on his lap, he asked me if I wanted to drive. So excited, I drove it right into the ditch. I remember Edna laughing until there were tears in her eyes, and then handing me a piece of her Sour Cream and Raisin pie. You are all in our prayers.

My deepest sympathies to your family. Lots of good times were had by my mom, Edith and her sisters with their cousin Edna. They loved visiting. My mom, Ethel and Irene had a hard time remembering their Norwegian, but I bet when those ladies got together, everyone spoke it! God Blessed your family with giving her a long time here with you.
