Eugene Ward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2018.
Eugene C. Ward of Morrisville, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13th, 2018 at the age of 89. A proud Army Veteran, he was born in Pottsville, PA to the late Emmett and Gertrude Ward. At Pottsville High he was elected senior class president and was an All Star basketball player. Eugene was a very witty man and had the Irish gift for storytelling and writing letters, which he loved to do. He made friends easily and spent long hours in conversations with his buddies all his life. He enjoyed flea markets and was a huge sports enthusiast especially the Eagles and Phillies. He collected sports memorabilia. Eugene was a very generous and kind man always willing to reach out and help the less fortunate. He went out of his way to visit friends and family when they were hospitalized. Most of all, Eugene loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings. He is preceded in death by 3 of his children, Kerry Ward, Jeff Ward, and Chris Ward, and his brothers, Robert Ward, Vincent Ward, and Frank Ward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Edna (nee MacAdams), his adoring children, Patrice (Ernesto Perez) Wynne, Holley (Ray) Betz, and Jason Ward, his 7 cherished grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, offspring of his first marriage to Gloria Bertonis; step-children are Terry (Gail) Dittes, Suzan Dobra, Michael Dittes, and Mary Ellen (Art) Davis. He is also survived by his sister, Marylou (Buddy) Wiedel, his sisters-in-law Monia Ward and Jeanette Ward, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Eugene will be held privately at the request of his family. He will be interred at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

Just now found this. My condolences to all. I used to work with Jeff at US Steel and many times we wound up at the Midway. I remember when Chris took it over too. Sorry to hear about your Dad, fellas. Jeff, get at me, let's talk.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Edna and the entire family in the sudden loss of Gene. He was a unique and kind man, and no one could ask for a better friend. We especially enjoyed his amusing letters from Florida, and tales (Pepper steak story a personal favorite) and recollections from a life well-lived. It was a privilege and honor to know Gene and we will miss him.
