Ivan Johnson Rinne, of Mass City, MI., went home to be with the Lord, November 16, 2018. Services will be held Saturday December 1, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe, MI. 323 Scott St., Monroe, MI.. Lie-In-State will take place from 10 AM until services at 11:30 AM. Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth will officiate. Internment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron Township, MI. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Grafton Hall, 12601 Grafton Rd., Carleton, MI. Ivan lived a life that was larger than life. He met every day with ambition and charged ahead. His passions were skiing and people. An amazing person with an amazing life, he had a huge heart and compassion for everyone. There were no strangers in Ivan's world - he opened his arms and touched every person he met in so many ways. He will be remembered as a charismatic, unforgettable presence who lit up the room with his smile. Often called an old soul, Ivan was wise well beyond his 16 years. He shared that wisdom with everyone he met and had unfailing patience, teaching people what he knew. A strong handshake, a confident walk, and enormous, tight hugs are common memories. Many nicknames were given to Ivan: Ivanator, Flyin Ivan and Ivan the Charger, among others. He inspired people to find joy in everything they did and live their life to the fullest. A family motto, "Live the Dash," was embodied in Ivan, and the strength of his character will live on in those he left behind. Ivan stared fear in the face and laughed at it. For Ivan, it was more than courage, it was the essence of his being. He had a deep faith, and was taught never to fear death but to embrace it as a fitting end to a beautiful life. Ivan had no fear because his faith was so strong - a lesson he wanted everyone to learn. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4). Ivan lived a life of adventure in Ontonagon County in the far western Upper Peninsula. He is survived by his parents John and Kirsten (Johnson) Rinne, his grandfather Gayland Rinne, his grandmother Valerie (Beattie) Johnson, aunts Carolyne (Thomas) Lynch, Debra (Paul) Dushane, Donna Rinne, Jody (Mark) Swank, uncles Gregory (Elaina) Johnson, David (Michele) Rinne, and a large extended family of cousins. He is preceded in death by grandmother Joann Rinne and grandfather Donald Johnson. Ivan is on a new adventure, and his family on a new journey. His strength will keep us going, and keep our faith strong, until the day we meet again. Ivan lived his dash. He is with us and within us. Always. The unmeasurable depth of our gratitude towards Ivan and John for the vehicle assistance they gave our daughter Leigh last March, now pales in comparison to the sympathy we feel for John, Kirsten, and the entire Rinne family during this unimaginably difficult time. We pray that God will lift this heavy burden from your hearts and minds yet allow you to cherish every moment you shared with Ivan during his all too short yet very full life here on Earth. Though we have no ability to understand it, be assured that Gods plan is perfect, and from this tragic event, something so much greater will result from it. May the peace of the Lord be with you always.

We met Ivan at my Aunt Shirley and Uncle Eino's (Kemppainen) when we were up visiting. He made quit a first impression. He was busy doing yard work and making sure he did to perfection. Ivan was such a joy to be around. When we took Aunt Shirley home last summer he showed us all the projects he was working on in my Uncle's garage. He was most proud of the pony motor he got to run on my Uncle's old bulldozer. He told me he was on a mission to get the big motor running next. I'm sure he would have if he had more time here. You don't find many young men like Ivan in this world. He was one of a kind and we will miss our visits with him. My Aunt Shirley and Howie thought of him as part of the family and we will all miss him. I'm sure he is lighting up Heaven just like he lit up the world just by his presence. May God hold you close in his ever loving arms.

The Ivanator was a special Buddy to me. The first time I met Ivan I knew he was not your average 14 yr old. He had interests in you don't see anymore mainly in the mechanical side of things. So I let him use my Fathers old garage for all his projects and he did. His old snowmobile count got up to 18 with him getting most of them to run again. This all happened because of the good family he was raised with. I'm proud to have known him and be around him. He definitely touched my heart and I will miss him. Thanks Ivan for being my special friend and this goes for my Mother also as she feels the same way.

I met this young man in June at Sharon & Al Johnson's home, He was sitting there having lunch with Wade and his parents. I thought what a very nice, polite young man, then to find he was only 16. I understand he was a very hard worker also. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. May you find comfort in our Lord.
