JAMES GILPATRIC Obituary

Published by Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home - Ulster Park on Jan. 12, 2019.
JAMES FRANCIS "DIGGER" GILPATRIC of Kingston, NY died January 12, 2019 at the age of 89. He began his career as a fourth generation funeral director and mortician by working at his grandfather's firm, the James M. Murphy Funeral Home in Kingston. Following the death of his grandfather, Jimmy took over ownership of the firm in 1954 and in 1972, it was renamed Gilpatric-Murphy Funeral Home. In 2009, the funeral home was acquired by Harry VanVliet IV, who renamed the firm to the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, and moved it to the Town of Esopus, NY where Jim continued as an adviser. He graduated from the Renouard School of Embalmers in 1950.

Dear Patty,Jim and family.,,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was one of kind with his own mold. You can be very proud of him and all the good he did for others. The Benedictine sisters will never forget his many kindnesses. I am sorry that I will not be able to make the wake or Funeral mass. I am disappointed, but I am a bit under the weather and feel it not wise to try.
I just know your Dad is in a better place and at peace now.
Love and prayers,Sr. Gabrielle Keenen. O. S. B.

Dear Christine,
My sincere sympathy, for the loss of your Father. It was such a pleasure to read about his life and career, truly a great all round guy. Someone to be very proud of and family he could be very proud of.
So hope to connect with you while you are back in the area. I so remember our days at Benedictine volunteering. I just loved that and spent my entire career between Nursing Homes and Hospitals. Never could get enough of working in the field of healthcare. However started out to follow in the footsteps of your Father in Funeral Service, but never found my way back to it.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.
Sincerely, Claire A Hannis
