Joyce Ferguson Obituary

Published by Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Jan. 8, 2020.
Joyce was born in Omaha, Nebraska to the union of O.D. and Sara Kirk on Sunday, May 14, 1944. She was their fourth daughter, as well as their fourth child of ten. The family moved to San Mateo when Joyce was an infant. She attended Lawrence Elementary School, College Park Junior High and graduated from San Mateo High School in 1962. She was also a graduate of Don's Beauty College where she received a CA state cosmetology license. Joyce loved beauty, fashion, and being of service. Joyce was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1954. She sang in the junior and youth choirs. Her favorite love of service was being an usher. She was a member of the junior and youth usher boards, and a very proud member of the Senior Usher Board. On any given Sunday - if Joyce were on duty to seat the congregation – you would see her standing at attention, yet "swaying" to the music of the gospel choirs. She volunteered on the Church's food service repass committee, preparing and serving meals to families in bereavement. Joyce met Harry Ferguson in 1963; they married and from that loving union of 40 years, they had three beautiful children, Rodney, Harry Jr., and Pam. She has five grandchildren, Laticia, Joycee, Karry, Rodney Jr., Kahmeya; five great grandchildren; Andrew, Royal, Mia, Harmony, Noa, and one on the way. Frequently Joyce had to share her birthday of May 14 with the celebration of Mother's Day, which made it super special for her and her family. All who knew Joyce can attest to the smiles and laughter she always brought, as well as her strong opinions! She loved playing games, especially bid whist, which is very competitive! When she was on the winning team, everyone knew it! Joyce enjoyed her chardonnay, casino trips, following the Royals and rooting for the Golden State Warriors! She was the life of the party, the pillar of our family, and a bright star that will truly never fade. In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Joyce leaves to mourn her passing, her sisters, Tommi Hill, Mary White and Glenda Morrison, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Other than the births of her grandchildren, Joyce's biggest moment of joy came two month ago in Florida where she was proudly involved in Pam and Amir's beachside wedding. She simply could not, and would not stop smiling. The family has those precious photos and fun memories to cherish forever! Joyce was preceded in death by her Parents, O.D. and Sarah Kirk; her brothers, Henry Kirk and Otis Kirk; her sisters, Ernestine Perkins, Barbara Jones, Katie Kirk and Clea Kirk; her nieces, Danielle Reed and Christina Perkins; her nephews, Andre Kirk and Donovan Austin.

Pam,
Words are never enough to express the sorrow of having to say goodbye to a loved one, especially a mother. Your mom had the sweetestpersonality and spirit. She truly made you feel loved after the first "hello" and even more so after the first "hug". Such a blessing it was to know such a kind, warm, giving, and fun woman. So very glad to have had the chance to party and celebratealongwith her at your wedding :). Those memories, and our DC adventures, will last forever. Your mom will be dearly missed! Continuous blessings and peace to you, Rock, Harry, and the rest of your family.
Love,
The family of Stones- Jerome, Flora, Kayla & Natalie
