Jane Carlton Hunter, a longtime resident of Bedford and Manchester, NH, died peacefully January 16, 2020 at Birch Hill Manor in Manchester. She was 94. Jane was born August 2, 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts to John A. Carlton and Winifred MacDonnell Carlton. Jane lived in Manchester where she graduated from Central High School class of 1943. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1947 and became a Board-Certified Pharmacist in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William Turner Hunter. They met at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and settled in Bedford to raise their four children while pursuing their professions. Jane became Director of the Sacred Heart Hospital Pharmacy in Manchester and William was owner and operator of Howe's Pharmacy in Goffstown. During the years of Jane and William's careers they were both awarded the A.H. Robins Co., Bowl of Hygeia, an award recognized as an international pharmaceutical symbol of medicine and healing. The award is presented annually to one pharmacist in each state for outstanding community service chosen by the New Hampshire Pharmaceutical Association. Jane's volunteer and community efforts centered around youth. Jane served as President of the Bedford Little League and was active for many years with the Board of Education Committees on Drug Abuse which involved lecturing to school audiences. Jane worked with united health and social welfare fund drives within her community and was a co-founder of Bedford's first kindergarten. She played an active role in "Dollars for Scholars" assisting youngsters with college tuition. Jane held several board positions, becoming the first woman to serve as President of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy Alumni Association. Jane was active with fund raising committees for the First Congregational Church in Manchester. Jane was a true organizer raising four children and ensuring family dinners happened each night. She loved to play tennis, ski, travel, read and was an avid sports fan. Jane is survived by her children, Donald Hunter (Carolyn Oaks), Diane Hunter Lee (Bing Lee), David Hunter (Charlene Hunter), Debra Hunter Carlucci (David Carlucci) and grandchildren, Eric Hunter, Meghan Green (Adam Green) and Caitlin Ross (Francis Ross), David Lee and Alex Lee. In Jane's later years she moved to Birch Hill Terrace where she met new friends and re-connected with many from the Manchester community. She had a zest for life and always kept abreast of her family and friends. Jane's Birch Hill family will forever be appreciated by the Hunters for their love and care. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. If you wish to honor Jane's memory, donations may be made to the Birch Hill Benevolent Fund, 200 Alliance Way, Manchester, NH 03102.

Dear Don and David...so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Sarah Browning just sent me the obituary, four months after your mom's death. I knew you boys when you were in high school and also in the youth group at the Hanover St. Congregational Church in Manchester. I was the Assistant Minister under Rev. Soper back then, and have many happy memories of you guys, plus Debbie Adams, Sarah Browning, Scott Holbrook, Doug Woods, the Johnson boys, Gail Durant, and many more, who must now be in their 60's and 70's. I remember your parents and sisters. It was great fund watching you guys group up. I came to the church right out of seminary in Boston as a newly we in 1966. We had two infants while at the church, Jonathan and Jason, before I went to new church outside St. Louis Missouri. I visited some of the old youth group a few years ago in Manchester, but missed seeing you two. I hope your lives have been enriching, exciting, full of love and purpose. Once again my sympathy at the loss of both your parents. I am retired from the ministry, age 80; I have grandchildren and two great-grandchildren living in Eagle Mountain, Utah. -Mr. Van (Rev. Charles Van Ausdall) 290 Summer St., Lee Ma 01238. Tel: 413-394-4559. Love to hear what your guys are up to these days.

Dear Donald, Diane, David, and Debbie,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. She holds a very special place in my heart for her kindness and warmth toward me and my entire family. She was the best of neighbors, as was your father, and a truly lovely, thoughtful person. I will always smile when I think of her. May her memory be a blessing forever. Love, Martha

Dear Hunter family,
We are sorrowed by Jane's passing.
She was a vibrant soul that became even more so when coupled with Bill. They were a team of which we were fond to be around. They knew how to have fun, and laugh. We hope those memories always burn bright with you, as they do with us.
With sincerest condolences.
