Mark K. Comeau

Mark Comeau, born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on June 3, 1968, died unexpectedly on March 3, 2020. Mark was the beloved husband of Ruth (Fagerberg) Comeau and the cherished son of the late Robert and Anna Comeau. The sixth of seven children, Mark grew up in a large, lively, loud family in the tight-knit Idlewell neighborhood of Weymouth. His childhood near the ocean inspired a lifelong love of the water, from fishing with his dad and five older brothers on the family boat to spending summers in the family's backyard "above-ground in-ground" pool that was always a gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors. Mark had a strong work ethic and held several jobs between his first paper route at age 11 and becoming a proud union member of the Plumbers & Gasfitters UA Local 12 in 1999. Mark made friends on each job across the trades with his outgoing personality and interest in everyone he met. He enjoyed boating, being in the sun, talking to everyone, playing pool, drinking Bud Light, hanging with his best buddy Dave Seckinger, and playing cribbage with his brothers. Mark had one of the world's best smiles and was known for his amiable personality, inviting nature, and grinning, impish eyes. He called everyone his friend. A friend of his said when you were with him, he made you feel like the most important person in the room. He met his wife Ruth on a blind date, after being introduced by a mutual friend. He invited her for lobster at Kelly's Landing in Weymouth, which Ruth thought was a messy first date but he insisted it would be fun. His friend Dave's wife Laurie ironed one of her son's shirts for him to wear so he would impress her. "He was just so cute. I just remember his smile, how easy it was to talk and get to know each other, and that he insisted on cracking my lobster for me," recalls Ruth, of what would be the start of a whirlwind romance. Thirteen months later, on a yacht club trip to Provincetown, while window shopping a jewelry estate sale, an offhand comment to her future sister-in-law Kathy led to Mark's purchase of a beautiful engagement ring. That night at a karaoke club, surrounded by yacht club members and brother Gary and wife Kathy, Mark serenaded his Ruthie with Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay with a 6 foot drag queen standing next to him, then dropped to one knee. They were married four months later on January 1, 2011 after a cancellation at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood, where Ruth would organize an annual work conference and the hotel staff insisted she take the cancellation, offering her an unbeatable deal. It was a blessing to marry so quickly, as both their mothers passed away shortly thereafter. They cherish pictures of their beloved mothers on their special day. After selling their boat, the couple longed to have a home with a yard. Sister in law Kathy came through again by finding a "perfect for them" house in Rockland, where they moved in December 2015. The tradition of backyard pool parties continued as Mark and Ruth loved hosting family and friend gatherings at their large in-ground pool. As it was just the two of them, they enjoyed sharing their sunny backyard with friends and family for parties, meeting friends for dinner and drinks, and just being together. Their last vacation together this month was a combination of a business trip for Ruth and a sunny getaway to South Florida to see much loved friends. Family was always very important to Mark. The siblings had come together in January, as Ruth described it, "making a Comeaution" for the 50th birthday celebration of the youngest in the family, sister Deidra. As his only sister, Mark had a special soft spot for his "goombah" and they were especially close. In addition to his wife, Mark leaves his brothers Gary and wife Kathy, Glen and wife Rose, Gregg, Gene and his girlfriend Grace, Scott and wife Patty, and sister Deidra, as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews. Mark is also mourned by his ex-wife and friend Paula Rosato and her parents Alg and Ava. Ruth wishes to thank all who have reached out to her with expressions of love, care, and support. Mark will be waked from the Magouns-Biggins Funeral Home in Rockland on Monday, March 9th from 5-8pm, with a funeral mass on Tuesday at 9am at Holy Family Church in Rockland. A celebration of life will follow at Rockland Golf Course. Ruth and Mark's siblings welcome all their friends to join them in celebrating his life.
