Natale Galletta Obituary

Published by Jeffries & Keates Funeral Home on Jan. 1, 1900.
Natale Galletta (Nate) survived by his brother Frank and sadly missed by Janet Ay, Don Ay Jr., Stephen Ay, Debbie Carmen, John Fricano, Lisa Roff, Steve Romanowski, Gladys Martin Thomas, Jane Turner and Wayne Wright. Nate was born in Pleasantville, NJ and grew up in Bargaintown. Having lost his mother (Josephine Calcongano Galletta) at a young age his dad (Tony Galletta) raised his two sons. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Army where he served in France. After the war Nate worked with his father and brother at his father's fruit stand which turned into Gallettas' Market in Cardiff in 1953. They operated the store until it's closing in 1984, both brothers thru their caring and generosity helped many people in the area who would not have had food on the table if not for them. During that time Nate went to school for air conditioning and refrigeration, and he was also very proficient in auto repair, electricity, plumbing, welding and TV repair. After the store closed, they built a butcher shop behind their house where Frank continued to make sausage and butcher meats for friends and relatives while Nate always seemed to have a project going on or helping someone because of his many skills. His genius for mechanical applications was evident in the icicle that he created for Storybook Land, his icicle never melted, even in the extreme heat. This was a very proud accomplishment of his. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. To leave condolences, pay respects or share a special memory of Natale please visit www.jeffriesandkeates.com. If there was ever anyone who has stood out to me as a genuinely good man, it was you, Nate Galletta...
You gave me my first job! Looking back over my lifetime, I believe that you and your brother Frank were the two people who best exemplified what it was to be a genuinely GOOD man. Hard-working, giving yourselves very little yet frequently giving to others the fruits of your hard labor out of selflessness and a sincere desire to help. There are many out there, I am sure, who will credit you both for being able to have food on their table during rough patches because of your generosity and heart. Many others who will never forget being extending credit to feed their children (with little expectation of ever being repaid). and at least one person (in me) of many who can remember always being greeted with a smile and a kind word as a regular part of visiting your store. And, although you may never have had any children of your own, I know that you were likely both thought of as father-figures or kind uncles by many! Nate, I know you are sitting at the side of the Lord now (as there has never been a man who is more deserving). I'm sure dear Pop has been waiting patiently to see you once again. I will always remember his mouth-watering cooking wafting through the kitchen window of the house and across the alleyway next to the store. Please give him a hug for me and look over your brother Frank from above. God be with you, Frank, at this sad time, and keep you until the time you will re-unite once again. In a Paradise, and for Eternity...Rest in Peace. The world's loss is the Lord's gain. May He bless and keep you always.

I'm so saddened to hear of Nates passing he was always such a kind and sweet man. I worked at Galletta's Market when I was young with Nate and Frank and they were wonderful bosses!! Nate always has the good lemon doughnuts when you worked on a Saturday. When I got my home I called him many times for refrigerator repairs. He was always quick with a joke and there to help! I will miss him greatly! Sending all my love and prayers to you Frank!
