Walter Mazur Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary North on Aug. 8, 2020.
Walter J. Mazur (age 90) passed away on August 8, 2020 in San Antonio, TX. He was born to John and Genevieve Mazur in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and he grew up in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. As the only brother to 5 sisters, he was often called "the thorn among the roses." Though, with so many sisters, it could be argued that he was the "rose among the thorns." He enlisted in the United States Army in 1947 and proudly served his country for 31 years, which included a tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He had a distinguished career, earning numerous awards, medals, and achievements. He retired at the rank of Command Sergeant Major and was awarded the Legion of Merit upon retirement. He then moved to civil service, where he served as a Military Specialist Proponency Analyst until his final retirement in 2003. He was a kind caretaker of animals, always happy with a beloved cat by his side, but he was most proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved showing off photos and bragging on them every chance he got. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Michael Mazur and Genevieve Malanowski Mazur; and his sisters, Frances Mazur and Veronica Biederstadt (and husband Cleatus). He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Charlotte Mazur; sisters, Angeline Lindsey (and husband Herbert C.), Rosemary Constantino (and husband Dominic), and Mary Larken (and husband Alex); children, Walter Mazur, Rosalie Koger (and husband Brett), and Richard Mazur (and wife Leticia); 6 grandchildren, Erin (and husband Michael), Michael Paul, Walter Andrew, Jonathan, Stephen, and Kelsey; 3 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Madeline, and Aiden; 7 nieces, 8 nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Shavano Park Senior Living and Hope Hospice for their kindness and care. A private interment will be held for immediate family. The service will be livestreamed on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. If you were not able to join the services , please follow this link to watch the recorded version: https://admin.mediafusionapp.com/_live/embedPlayer.php?contentId=86631 In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in Walter's honor to the charity of your choosing. Steven n Donna Marinello. We will always remember Uncle Walt. The tears that I shed now are now joy of the memories in my heart. May it be your consolation to find in God above Strength in His understanding, and Comfort in his love. May you also find comfort in your memories. Love always.
