Bill died on Sunday, July 18, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones in Seasons Hospice in Milton. Bill Noke's life was defined by his hard work ethic both personally and professionally. As a laborer with Tunnel Workers Local Union #88, a drilling and excavating union, he was instrumental in projects like The Big Dig and Deer Island in Boston. Work at home was not hard work for Bill. He kept busy with various projects and with his green thumb he loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor when the garden produced beautiful flowers and wonderful vegetables. Bill loved the outdoors which included fishing and hunting and his friendships from the Gun Club in Harvard. Above all else he adored his family and cherished his relationships with each of them but most especially he was the much loved 'Gumpie' to his three grandchildren. William George Noke was born on November 6, 1941 in Waltham a son of the late Edmund and Annabelle (Rolfe) Noke. A graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1960 he later honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Newton native Carol A. Biggieri on June 16, 1968 in Saint Bernard Parish in West Newton and they have made Waltham their home ever since. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Carol, he leaves his children, Lisa M. Noke – Kearney of North Billerica and William D. Noke (late Monica A. Noke) of Medfield; siblings Roberta Curtin of Ayer, Joanne DeBettencourt (Kenneth) of Oak Bluffs and his late twin brother, Edmund Noke; brother-in-law of David Biggieri (Valerie) of Natick; grandfather of William R. Noke, Marissa and Ryan Kearney; also survived by nieces & nephews and a host of friends. Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, July 22nd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday morning where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Melmark New England, 461 River Road, Andover, MA 01810. www.melmarkne.org

When I was a kid, I sometimes would join my older brother and some of his friends walking to wherever we were walking. Like most older brothers, Fred (3 1/2 years older than I), didn't seem to like me tagging along. I remember one day, I was walking along behind everyone else, and Billie dropped back to join me. I remember him putting his arm around my shoulder and talking to me, I don't remember what about, but he was back there with me and talking to me. It probably doesn't seem like much, but I never ever forgot. As time passed I only saw him a few times (once in leather on his motorcycle) and not too long ago at one of the gatherings of my brother and old friends at The Chateau in Waltham. I remember I couldn't wait to see him. Whenever I talked to my brother on the phone (I'm in South Carolina now) he would always give me an update on Billie. Then on one call he told me that Billie had passed away. It saddened me, of course, but once again there I was many years ago, walking and talking with Billie, my hero. My sincere condolences to Billie's family and friends. God bless.

He was such a character, he got me my first and Best job ever! Working for Pittorio brothers.
Beside that he was a friend forever!
I will miss him so much; as a character a friend and almost relative Thur marriage.
