My condolences to the family.
I remember Jimmy from grammar school and social gatherings (bond fires) of the late '60s.
He had the kind of social glue and zest for life that attracted many of us.
So sorry for your loss.

Jimmy was/will always be such a strong presence in my/my siblings earliest memories growing up in Douglas Manor, from Lifeguard Extraordinairre at The Club, the swimming team, actor in the water ballets and forever saling the high seas of Little Neck Bay. He had such la ove of tradition along with this little peninsula we call "home" and, above all, his wonderful family. He has left an indelible footprint on all who knew and loved him. Sail on, Jimmy!
Sending comforting thoughts to all the McCanns.

Dear Cindy and family,
We are so saddened to learn about Jim's passing. It was always fun to see Jim around the Manor. He never failed to ask about our dogs.the clowns. Jim was a very caring and friendly person who will be greatly missed. Take care. God bless.

Jimmy was a great guy and will be sorely missed by many. I remember his Dad driving Jimmy, my older brother Peter and myself to St. Mary's HS in Manhasset many a morning in the early 60's. great sense of humor and a fun loving guy.
I trust he is resting in the peace of Jesus' loving arms.

I remember the day Jimmy moved into 14 Arleigh Rd., across the street from us (the Carberrys). We went to "Miss McCarthy's Nursery School", and were in Miss Kenny's kindergarten class at St. Anastasia. I was so happy!
We played together all the time, and can't recall a disagreement or unkind word from him.
We did get into trouble sometimes, mostly due to my accidents (broken toe playing "Cat and Mouse" when the bench fell on my toe, and broke it; stitches needed because a toy rifle hit my eyebrow, when I tripped over a metal bar). I still remember, "No playing downstairs until after the baby's born!" - an admonishment from Mrs. McCann. The baby was Billy (Will), -don't think we played there for quite a while.
I think of Jimmy every May 4th, his birthday, as I do Lou, Peter (Pete), and Billy (Will) on theirs. I have had "Jimmy" for decades as the answer to one of my computer security ?s - Who is a favorite childhood friend?"
For August 30th a devotional I read says, "If we declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, then we will be saved." I know I'll see Jimmy again, and hope that God let my son, Damon, (named after Damon Rust from Miss McCarthy's), be part of heaven's "Welcome Team" for Jimmy.
Love to all, and immeasurable gratitude for providing me with a childhood I'll always cherish,
Chaela Carberry (Christianson)

It’s been so many years since I saw Jimmy, but want to send condolences to his family. He’s sailing past the sunset now, where the wind always blows and the dolphins swim by the bow

To the family of Jim McCann: Peter, Louise, Will, spouses and loved ones.
We send our deepest condolences to all of you on the loss of Jim. There are so many memories of Jimmy McCann from the days of his elegant diving championships at the Club, sailing, pubbing at the Weeping Beech and always his American flag shirt. He was a Douglaston fixture and now will forever be a legend. He touched so many lives, was always sincere and kind. We feel exceptionally lucky to have known him. We wish peace and comfort to his loved ones. May your memories of him forever bring smiles to your faces.
With much love, deep hugs and prayers for your comfort. May he rest in peace.

Met Jimmy in 1964 at Fordham university and we became instant friends. Remember hanging out in his room listening to the latest Beach boys album or Beatles album and enjoying carefree times together. For unately, I was able to reconnect with him in the last seven years a bit and he remained a great guy and a great friend. Everyone who knew him will miss him terribly. Vince Policelli

My heart is so heavy as I write these words. Please accept my deepest sympathy and know how saddened I am with the passing of Jimmy.
We grew up across the street from each other on Arleigh Road. Both families enjoyed visiting each other's homes as well as playing on Arleigh RD in the warm weather. In the summer ,our fun continued at Arleigh Beach when the tide was high !
May Gods watch over all the McCanns . May He give you strength, comfort and solace in the days , weeks and months ahead.
Much love,
Sheila

James, or Chuck as he was known by his brothers in Fordham’s C-House dorm, was a guy who always made your day seem brighter. Fifty plus years later I still smile when I think of him and those days long ago. I’ll miss his surprise emails and good humor.

Jimmy learned to sail in Junior Activities sponsored by the Douglas Manor Association which included alternating days of tennis, swimming and sailing. 19 foot Lightnings and 14 foot Blue Jays were our sailing vessels. Jimmy loved to sail and it shows!
