Douglas Duane Kuhn, 63, of Richmond, passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Reid Hospital.
Born on July 30, 1962, in New Castle, Indiana, Doug was the son of the late Franklin Jay and Lillian Jane (York) Kuhn. He grew up in Hagerstown and graduated from Hagerstown Jr.-Sr. High School in 1980. At just 17, he set out on his own adventure, moving to Texas to begin a ten–year career with Texas Instruments.
Doug was always drawn to people, conversation, and connection. His charismatic, outgoing nature made the hospitality industry a perfect fit. His work took him to remarkable places-New York City, Aruba's Blue Bay Resort, North Carolina, and Leesburg, Florida, where he enjoyed being part of the magic at Disney World. He spent many years in New York City and was there during the tragic events of 9/11, enduring long hours stuck on the subway that day.
Doug had a wonderful sense of humor and loved breaking the ice with strangers just to brighten their day. He had a soft spot for animals and was especially fond of giraffes, which he enjoyed collecting. Above all, Doug's heart belonged to his family. He adored his nephews and their children, loving them as if they were his own.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Tim Kuhn of Dallas, TX; his sister, Lisa Patterson of Hagerstown; his nephews, Nick (Evy) Patterson of Pickerington, OH, Eric (Stephannie) Patterson of Hagerstown, and Drake Ross of Muncie; as well as his beloved great-nieces and great-nephews-Lane, Greyson, Evelyn, Finley, Alisha, and Eli.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his cousin and goddaughter, Katherine Hope Lee, who passed away from cancer in 1988.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Doug's life will be held from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Interfaith Apartments, 34 NW 5th Street, Richmond, Indiana.
Doug loved adventure and was an eye donor. His family is comforted knowing he will be able to continue his sight through others.
