Elizabeth Case Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Apr. 14, 2026.
Elizabeth Fern "Betty" Case, 83, of New Castle, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early in the morning hours of Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Betty was born on January 25, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Rev. John Washington and Martha Lovenia (Broyles) VanCise.

Raised in a devoted Christian home, Betty began seeking the Lord as a young child. Her father, who faithfully pastored throughout her childhood, played a meaningful role in her spiritual journey. She often shared how, at just nine years old, she asked him to give an altar call one Sunday evening so she could go forward and be saved. Though she continued to seek the Lord through her youth, it was during her time at God's Bible School & College that she fully settled in her heart to walk with God.

It was there she met John Case, the love of her life, and they were united in marriage on July 16, 1964. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, faithfully serving the Lord side by side.

In her own words, Betty reflected, "To date, we have been married 61 years, and it has been wonderful serving the Lord together." She and John were truly a team in every sense-serving together in ministry from before they were married and throughout every season of life. They began by playing piano and organ together at God's Bible School for chapels and special services, singing alongside her brother, Bob VanCise, and sharing a radio broadcast on WAKW in Cincinnati.

Their ministry journey took them first to the City Rescue Mission in Binghamton, New York, where they lovingly served those in need, including the hurting and the forgotten. From there, they pastored a Wesleyan Methodist Church in Toronto, Ohio, and later the New York Pilgrim Holiness Church in Middleburgh, New York. They spent three years in full-time evangelism with their family, followed by pastoring in Strattanville, Pennsylvania.

The Lord then led them to Grand Cayman Island under the Caribbean Conference of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, which later became the Wesleyan Church. Betty faithfully served there for 17 years. Even when they believed it was time to retire, the Lord had more for them to do. They continued in full-time evangelism for 12 years, ministering in revivals, camp meetings, and conventions, before once again being called back to the Cayman Islands, where they pastored until 2022. They then returned to New Castle for retirement.

Throughout her life, Betty was a devoted pastor's wife and faithful helpmeet, serving with a willing heart and a quiet strength. She had a special love for working with children, youth, and new converts, and she used her musical talents to bless many. She was known for her steadfast faith, her strength of conviction, and her compassionate and caring spirit. Patient, kind, and deeply loving, Betty cherished her family and poured her life into those she loved.

She once said, "God has led all the way, and we have no regrets for what we've given to the Lord." Those words beautifully reflect the life she lived-a life of faithful service, unwavering belief, and wholehearted devotion.

Those left to cherish Betty's memory include her beloved husband, Rev. John Case, Sr.; four children, Jeff (Lisa) Case of Onsted, Michigan, Jerry (Teresa) Case of New Castle, Joy (Steven) Beveridge of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, and Joe (Ralynne) Case of Bethalto, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Brugger Case of Salisbury, Maryland; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, with three on the way; her brother, Rev. Robert (Veralynn) VanCise of Marion; her sister, Delores Conover of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Franklin Case Jr., in 2007, who joyfully welcomed her into Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Don Raines officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle.
