Kansas City Chiefs Legend

Len Dawson was a star quarterback in college at Purdue and was drafted in the first round of the 1957 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a backup his first five years with Pittsburgh and then Cleveland. He signed with the Dallas Texans of the AFL in 1962 and blossomed under coach Hank Stram, leading the Texans to the AFL title.  The franchise moved to Kansas City the following year and Dawson continued his success. Known for his accuracy, Dawson was a six-time AFL All-Star who led the Chiefs to a slot in the historic first Super Bowl where they lost to the legendary Green Bay Packers. Three years later, Dawson would lead the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win, beating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. Dawson, known as “Lenny the Cool,” played well and was chosen as the Super Bowl MVP and elected to the Pro Bowl. After his playing career, he was a popular broadcaster on radio for Chiefs games and the host of HBO’s “Inside the NFL.” Dawson was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987.
