Ron Sexton’s legacy
While primarily a touring stand-up comedian, Sexton won fans thanks to his frequent appearances on The Bob & Tom Show. He played a host of characters on the show, often calling in as one of the many he had created, but Sexton won the hearts of listeners as Donnie Baker, a hapless working-class character with constant relationship trouble who was always trying to sell a troublesome boat.
Sexton grew up in the Indianapolis area, attending Franklin Central High School and performing on the school’s radio station. After school, he would focus on his comedy. In 2005, he debuted his Donnie Baker persona — it was an instant hit, thanks to catchphrases such as “State law!” and “I swear to God.” Other popular characters included Floyd the Trucker and Kenny Tarmac, and he also did celebrity impersonations.
