Ted Kaczynski, the domestic terrorist who was called the Unabomber by the media, died in prison on June 10, 2023, at the age of 81.
From 1978 to 1995, Kaczynski sent a series of bombs in the mail that killed three people and injured 23 others. We do not mourn this murderer’s loss. Instead, we pay tribute to the memories of those whose lives were cut short:
Hugh Scrutton (1947–1985)
Thomas J. Mosser (1944–1994)
Gilbert Brent Murray (1948–1995)
After eluding justice for 18 years, Kaczynski was arrested in 1996 after demanding the publication of his manifesto in The Washington Post. His brother recognized his writing style and alerted the authorities to his suspicion that Kaczynski had committed the crimes. In 1998, Kaczynski was given eight life sentences without the possibility of parole, and he spent the rest of his life in prison.
