Acting career
Bisoglio’s early movies include “No Way to Treat a Lady,” “The Hindenburg,” and an uncredited role in “Serpico.” On TV, he made early appearances on “Mayberry, R.F.D.,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and “All in the Family.” In 1973, he took a regular role in the short-lived sitcom “Roll Out,” and he went on to notable appearances on “Kojak,” “Police Woman,” and “Barney Miller.”
A big break came for Bisoglio in 1976 as he was cast as restaurateur Danny Tovo on “Quincy, M.E.,” a regular role spanning the show’s entire eight-season run. Another notable role came in 1977’s “Saturday Night Fever,” in which he played Frank Manero Sr., father of John Travolta’s character. It was followed by another big screen role, playing Chief Gray Cloud in “The Frisco Kid.” In 1981 and 1982, Bisoglio appeared on several episodes of “M*A*S*H” as Sgt. Sal Pernelli, also known as The Cook. After appearances on “Hill Street Blues” and “Miami Vice,” Bisoglio’s final acting role was in “The Sopranos,” playing aging mob capo Murf Lupo.
