Jimmy Keeth Obituary

Rex Thayer of Boynton Beach fondly remembers how his step-son Jimmy Keeth would react after bowling one of his many 300 games -- or rather, how he didn't react.

"It was just and everyday thing for him. He wanted everybody to think, 'so what?'" Thayer said. "He tried to be gruff, but everyone that really knew him knew he wasn't that way at all."

Mr. Keeth, a former member of the Professional Bowlers Association, suffered a massive heart attack on Thanksgiving and passed away last night at Hospice of Palm Beach County. He was 38.

"He was the best, and everybody loved him," said his younger brother, Bobby Keeth, of Wellington. "(People) always loved to watch him bowl. They just loved to be around him."

Mr. Keeth was born in Michigan but lived in Lake Worth and West Palm Beach for 35 years. Neither Mr. Keeth nor anyone in his immediate family had a history of heart problems. Mr. Keeth suffered the heart attack around 2 p.m. while he was alone in his home, and he called 911 himself. He was a PBA member from 1986 to 2004, where his hard throws earned him the nickname "The Rocket."

I watched the pbs every Saturday at 4pm. Both my dad and i were avid bowlers. I remember jimmy keeth and other pba members as if they were my friends. Love bowling...both candle pins and ten pins. Many fond memories. RIP to all that brought such joy and have since passed.

I have chosen not to remember this anniversary today as being your last day here on earth, but I do choose, to remember how wonderful and exhilarating it was when you were here. The date is not what I remember, it's us that I always treasure.

I work in a Las Vegas casino and as I was leaving work tonight I passed by a woman with a t-shirt that had Jimmy Keeth in big letters on the front. I immediately stopped in my tracks and just had to turn around and make sure I wasn't seeing things. Without trying to look like I was some crazy person staring at her, I looked over the shirt and saw several bowling references so I knew it was the Jimmy that I had once known. I immediately came home to search and found what I didn't want to know had happened to him. I only knew him for a short time but he was the ONE that I always regreted not having stayed when he asked me to.
My condolences to the family and I will as always miss him terribly.

I guess it's kinda weird to be writing this now, but I JUST found out about Jimmy's passing. I moved to GA 6 yrs ago and lost touch with people and the FL news. I lost touch with Jimmy about 18 years ago. We met through a mutual friend, Mike Venturelli. After bowling they would come to my place and some of us would play quarters and he and my sister would have belching contests. He was so much fun to be around, as long as he bowled well. If he didn't bowl well, rare times, he'd be kinda grumpy but we'd cut up until he got in a good mood. The grumpiness didn't last long. He was hilarious! I could never stay mad at him for very long. He'd make me laugh too hard to stay angry. We had some great times! For Christmas that year he wanted a Red Hammer bowling ball. I got it for him, but first I gave him a hammer, painted red. We lost touch, but I've never forgotten him and never will. He has a special place in my heart. I only wish we had reconnected. I wish I could've said good-bye. It makes me sad to know I will never see him again on this earth. I hope he was happy and fulfilled in his life. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. I know you must miss him terribly. Luv Ya Jimmy! Keep the angels laughing!

My memory of Jimmy was at a superbowl game at my sister Margo's house. One word to discribe that day..........Hilarious. He made me laugh till I almost passed out. He stuck his finger up his nose, farted and burped and yelled "Menudo"!!!!! The boy group of the 80's at that time. you had to be there to appreciate it. Thanks Jimmy for the laughter.

To all whom Jimmy's life has touched: I know that you will miss him terribly. I haven't been in contact with Jimmy for a sometime, but have kept up with relatives from time to time. I once was an aunt by marriage and he was a delight to be around. Jimmy was a special person. My thoughts and prayers go out to his father, Red: his mother, Nora: his brother Bobby and his step-sister Gina. Love, Sandi

Jimmy

You hold a special place in my heart and you always will. I remember you being at my house when I came home from the hospital with my newborn (Michael) in 1987 and you couldn't wait to hold him. When Mike throws a bowling ball now I think of you. You have been an inspiration to so many. I have loved you for many years and will for the rest of my days. For knowing you has been a true blessing. Hold a spot in heaven for me.

Well, this has been one the longest weeks of my life. From our time at the hospital to our time at the services, I want to thank Nora, Red, Rex, Bobby, Lloyd and family for letting me closer into their family this week. I also want to thank Jimmy for being my friend, we shared many firsts. Banging our heads at concerts and ducking our heads at Panthers hockey games. We bowled our junior programs together and were drafted into our first league together at Riviera Lanes right out of YABA, we shot my first and his second 300 games together at Fair Lanes on the same team, same night and we have won some local and state tournaments together as well. We also shared our bad golf games together. But most important we shared a friendship. May you be at peace. I will miss you immensely.

I never really knew Jimmy personally, but he was always entertaining and had a sense of humor like no other. The sport of bowling has lost one the true good guys, as well as the most unique talent the PBA has ever seen. May God be with the Keeth family in this time of grief.

What a sad day it turned out to be when my father called to tell me about the tragedy that hit Jimmy's family and all of us that had the privilage to know Jimmy. I will never forget the times at Lantana Lanes when Jimmy and Bobby would have so much fun bowling. The day Jimmy won his PBA title I was right there screaming at the TV. I will never forget Red coming into the station talking so proudly of Jimmy and his bowling. Jimmy, you will be missed by many. My prayers go to you and your family Jimmy.

My best memories are all of the fun times and stories that Jimmy gave to Dixon, Chuck, Joe, Dawn and myself. We had a blast and you will always be fondly remembered so "GAF" my friend.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Nora, Red, Rex, Bobby and Lloyd during this difficult time. Jimmy was a good friend with a good heart.

I remember when I met Jimmy, almost 20 yrs ago at Olympic Bowl in Rochester, NY. He was Mr. Entertainer. You didn't speak with Jimmy without laughing hysterically. He was a great person. To the family, friends and fellow bowlers you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Miss you Jimmy!

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. We will always remember Jimmy's sense of humor, how humble and down to earth he was. We feel fortunate to have gotten to know Jimmy as a bowler, and a friend. He was larger than life on and off the lanes. I'll never forget the way he could bring a 10 pin all the way back to the foul line, and the sound of the pins when the ball hit the pocket. When bowling, everyone watched, when just hanging out, everyone hung around him. The bowling community and the community in general has lost a dynamic personality. He will be truly missed.

There are no words to describe the empty space in my heart. Jimmy has been a part of my family's life since we met him at 16, when he was a concourse kid at Fairlanes. He was my daughter's first crush. My husband and I, along with Rich Christofek and Dale Brady spent every weekend together, bowling and partying. He and Rich would sneak into the "Barefoot Mailman" and have drinks with us. Nora, Red and Bobby, I am so sorry. He was one of a kind and we will miss him. He still owes me $$$$. I am so glad I got to speak to him before I moved out here.
