Reginald Hoddinott Obituary

First Lieutenant Ken Hoddinott, WW II 8th AF B-17 Flying Fortress Command Pilot flew his final mission August 2, 2017, in Evans, GA, at age 95.

Ken was born August 29, 1921, in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute's "A" Course. At age 20, he received a B.S. in Mechanical Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Maryland and enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force. He was a military and commercial pilot, aircraft commander, and element leader in the "Mighty 8th Air Force, 487th Bomb Group" in Lavenham, England during World War II.

After the war, he flew in the reserves at Aberdeen, MD, designed aircraft for the Glenn L. Martin Co., sold chemicals for Davidson Chemical, W. R. Grace & Co., Columbia Nitrogen/DSM, and retired from Freeport McMoRan as Vice President Sales Manager of the Chemical and Sulfer Divisions.

Ken was a Life Scout, Presbyterian Elder, Airport Commissioner, served on numerous professional and community boards and commissions, and was director emeritus of two and president of nine.

Ken donated his remains to the Medical College of Georgia, and a memorial service will be scheduled in the coming months. He is survived by his devoted wife, Melba, 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
