Marcella Dalsey Obituary

Marcella M. Dalsey

Haddonfield, NJ

May 31, 2014. Mother of Chelsea Dalsey, Robert Dalsey, Grace Dalsey and John Dalsey. Daughter of Marcella Jennings and the late Russell Finger. Loving partner of Joe Salema. Sister of Debbie Vogel. Aunt of Kelly and John. Marcy was born in Camden NJ and raised in Pennsauken NJ. She graduated from Pennsauken High School and attended the Columbia Nursing School until the birth of her first child. She has been a lifelong investor in real estate rental properties for which she had a deep and talented passion. In the 1990's she founded Gracie's Ice Cream Parlor in Haddonfield. Gracie's, although under different ownership, is still an operating business at its original site. While raising 4 children Marcy began her passion to help the less fortunate residents of Camden NJ. She began as a volunteer organizing clothing drives, and progressed along with Lewis Katz to become the Co-Founder of the Knowledge A to Z Academy Charter School. (Katz Academy) She began working with the Katz family organizations in 2007, and served in various capacities including Executive Director of the Drew A Katz Foundation. Her passion has always been children, education, and creative energy for new and exciting ideas. Marcy also served as a Katz representative on the Board of the Greater Camden Partnership until shortly before its merger with the Coopers Ferry Development Corp. In 2011 Marcy used her talents to organize a Peace Summit in Newark with Mayor Cory Booker and the Dalai Lama. She participated, along with her children, in the Haddonfield Plays & Players and was a fiercely dedicated walker, seldom missing a day. She was always observed doing her morning walks in Haddonfield, and in Philadelphia. An avid follower of Broadway shows, she would often extend her love of walking to Central Park whenever she visited NYC. In the 1980's she was a Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader, and was proud to have been on the squad that cheered at the Super Bowl in New Orleans in 1981. Relatives and friends are invited to memorial services on Saturday, June 7, 2014 beginning 10:00AM at Knowledge A to Z Katz Academy Charter School, 1725 Park Blvd., Camden, NJ. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Friends of Knowledge A to Z Katz Academy Charter School, 905 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 in memory of Marcy Dalsey. I had the pleasure of being close friends with Marcy during Jr High and High School in Pennsauken. We drifted apart after that, but I will always remember her effervescent personality and her love of life. I am so saddened by this tragic event that took this wonderful woman away from us and my thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and friends!

I think she would want us all to continue to light up the world. I know that my thought of what I'd want known first and foremost was that for all else she was known, that it was her children and being a mother that was the most cherished. Watch over us fellow positive force for Camden. Thanks for all.

To Joe: I met Marcy while preparing to "entertain" at one of Denny Culnan's extravaganzas. What a charming, delightful woman and I could tell by watching you that you appreciated just how lucky you were to have her in your life. Words cannot express my sorrow for your loss but I know she brightened your days and that you will cherish that.

Thoughts, prayers, and positive vibrations sent, wave after wave, smile after smile, hug after hug, to the Dalsey children, Chelsea, Bobby, and Gracie, as well as well as to those close to Ms. Dalsey as they navigate their way through this tragedy. "Death is nothing else but going home to the Universe, the bond of love will be unbroken for all eternity." ~ Mother Teresa...

Your bonds of love will be with her forever and always. So among this, one of life's horrible situations, know your love will be a forever kind of thing. I mean, who are any of us to argue with Mother Teresa? We're all thinking of your family at this tough time.

With Love,

Theater, dinners, laughter, Positano, Firenze, match making and music, the language of Marcy. She made me laugh and hugged my grief away..and embraced in her love. She was so much the song "Maria" from the "Sound of Music."..."How do you catch a moonbeam in your hand?" She was our heart and it's so broken.

Always giving, always a joy to be with. A great mother who was devoted to her children. She was the first one to volunteer for school events and always showed up ready to do whatever was needed. I once heard her referred to as "the energizer bunny". We will miss Marcy so very, very much.
