JAMES GANGLE Obituary

"THEN AND NOW"

James R. Gangle

James R. Gangle of Copley, Ohio died April 10, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Born in 1940 in Barberton, Ohio, Jim attended St. Augustine's Elementary School and graduated from Barberton High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fulton from 1958-1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In 1961, Jim married the love of his life and best friend, Lovetta Sue (Wildroudt), celebrating 52 years of marriage in 2013.

Jim took great pride in his family, his Catholic faith, and his family business, Jim Gangle Bulldozing & Excavating Co., that his father started in 1947. He was meticulous with his trucks and equipment, which carried through to his customers and contractors. Throughout his life, he made many business relationships that turned into lifelong friendships.

Jim enjoyed hunting, watching Nascar, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his nine grandkids.

Jim was an active and life member of the NRA, Historical Construction Assoc., and the Greater Akron & National Home Builders Association. He was also a life member and past commander of the Frank Bender American Legion Post 473 and took great pride in flying the American flag daily.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Werner); sister, Carole Freno; and brothers- in-law, Dick Myers and Gary Gray. He is survived by his wife, Sue; sisters, Peg Myers and Sally Gray of Barberton, Judi (Dave) Wanczyk of Thorton, Colo., Jean (Dave) Sweet of Canal Fulton; and brother-in-law, Bernie Freno of Barberton. Jim is also survived by his children, Terri (Butler) Day of Atlanta, Ga., Jim (Cheryl) of Copley, Dave (Justine) of Birmingham, Ala., Russ (fiancé Amy Crow) of Atlanta, Ga. and Beth (Steve) Morris of Louisville, Ohio; he was "Pap-Pap" to his nine grandchildren, Nick, Drew, Rob, Lee, Lake, Cole, Joe, Sam and Megan.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and doctors at Akron General Medical Center and Concordia at Sumner for the excellent care he received.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton. Fr. James Maloney, celebrant. Burial with military honors at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Calling hours Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church. www.silva-hostetler.com

God Bless you Shipmate! I had the honor and privilege of serving with Jim Gangle. If my memory serves me correctly, he was an lathe operator in the machine shop.... was an MR3 or 2. He was an easy guy to meet and talk with and I often would spend time with him in the shop as it was on the way from the After Engineroom where I first learned my trade to the Mess Hall. He was an all-around good guy. I can't tell you the shock when I read his obit in the latest USS Fulton newsletter. May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord. God Bless all of you in the Gangle family.

Dear Sue and Family,

So many fond memories of Jim and swimming and fishing with my Dad at "Gangle's Pond".
Jim and Sue often stopped in to see Mom and Dad on Shenandoah. Dad and Jim were kindred spirits and part of brotherhood of men that served and built this country. God Bless you Jim.

Sue,
Karl and I were saddened to learn of Jim's death. I know the family is there to help but we also know how painful is this loss!
Consider this our hug for you, and know we pray all will work out for you in this time of deep grief.
Seems not that long ago when he excavated for our office on Copley Rd, yet it was a lifetime ago.
We miss our friends back there, especially when crisis happens. The years we have known each other seems unbelievable, but we often think of various times and activities we shared.
God bless you all.

Jimmy was always a "favorite" cousin of the Bob Werner children as we were growing up. There were many things to admire about Jimmy, but I am especially grateful to him for popping in often to see "Uncle Bob and Aunt Ro" in their declining years! His visits brought them such joy. I trust that he is visiting them again today and that they are once again reminiscing about old times. They will all be missed dearly.

Dear Sue and family,
Our hearts go out to you.
Jim will be so missed by all.
You are forever in our thoughts and prayers,
