Dear Laura: I just today learned of Ross's passing and I am sick at heart. He was a dear friend and teacher for me and an asset to Santa Fe. Roger Pufahl

Dear LewAllen Famly,
I always knew I was home when we passed Ross' studio on the corner of the plaza.
No one on the east coast understood WHAT I was wearing in 1978;
But I still have (and adore) my sweet cuff, and remember Ross as
a very "still" and deep gentleman. I send prayers to you.
Respectfully, Lucy

Whenever Ross and I would meet we would first smile at each other..... 30 years of smiles. I think both of us realized that we were two Souls temporarily residing in a physical body. His eyes always sparkled and his vision of life sparkled as well. He used to say that he liked me even though my shoes were always polished! I said I liked him because he was a down-to-earth Shaman. Ross will always be with us, as we gaze into the night sky or look out into the horizon, or see fanciful colors in nature.
Blessings, Brother .... I'll keep my shoes polished just for you !!

Laura, I am grieving the loss and remembering the many contributions of Ross your dad to my life and my being here in Santa Fe. He and I both taught art at the same college in Illinois and I knew and respected your mother there & here too. Many gifts your dad gave me included continuing interest in the men's movement/ new mexico men's wellness, being in a circle of brothers (and I sat in circle with Ross many times), having close male friends, being an artist here, respect and regard for spirit, and some good measure of my love for Santa Fe. Our paths have crossed and even with you on brief occasions over the years. I am sending you blessings for what was, what is, and memories with everything else forward. John Wantz

I am deeply disappointed that I will miss the memorial since I have just today arrived in Sicily. Ross was an exceptional man, who contributed much to men's wellness in NM. He traveled and then brought back wisdom and ideas to share with the rest of us. He is very much missed and his presence is still very much present as many of us continue to use talking sticks he so lovingly and artistically crafted. Blessings on the next adventure, dear man!

Adored, precious family of Ross - My heart is very, very sad to realize that I will not be able to see Ross' smiling face and hear his beautiful deep voice, or a new story told with such warmth and enthusiasm as only Ross could tell... or get a true hug when I needed one. I have a painting of his right here in my livingroom - a black and white 'Hopi Wolf Pup' lying under the full moon. His inscription reads, "Patty, I will always love you -' and at first I thought it was the wolf pup talking, but later felt Ross was paraphrasing words from my late husband Jesse to heal my heart as Jesse departed some 13 years ago, and was
and a friend of Ross' from long ago when they both were
young men recently come to Santa Fe -
Dearest Laura, Takis and Hanne, I send you all the love and
warmth in my heart - with open arms he embraced humanity and shared his huge warm spirit. He will be greatly missed - a rare gift was our Ross - so much greater a gift to you, and you all to
him - may he soar with the angels. Love you all - Patty (from the Map)

Ross was a "virtual" friend I met through our artistic postings on flickr. We'd had some personal correspondence about meeting one another in Santa Fe. Now I've just read of his passing and am truly devastated. I'll always feel as if we had met in person. My deepest condolences to his precious family.

When Ross arrived at New Mexico Highlands University circa 1969 he found his way into the Chair's office to plan his gradute program. Ross was smoking a cigar! The Chair quickly escorted Ross into the sculpture studio and suggested that he would be more comfortable studying with Prof Leippe. So began an enduring friendship which was enrciched by the vicissitudes of life. Better hang on if you hang out with Ross. Recently we found his booth at the Cleveland Roller Mill crafts show. We sat down on the cool, green grass in the shelter of friendly trees that reached up into a blazing blue sky and ruminated. All the beneficent Gods knew that this was our last visit in this world. Laura's turn to carry the Lewallen torch.

Thank you, Ross, and bless you, dearest Laura, Takis, and the circle of friends, family, united now in prayer - passing the talking stick, honoring this great man we love.
