Robert Tully Obituary

Robert A. Tully

Camarillo, CA

July 17, 1946 -

February 22, 2017

Robert passed away due to natural causes on February 22, 2017 and joined his blessed Lord and Savior in eternity. Born in Dallas Texas, and a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan, he was raised in Oxnard by his beloved mother, Gloria Hammans, and graduated from Hueneme High School in 1964. As a young man, Robert and his buddies were avid car jockeys and motorcyclists, providing a high degree of job security for the local police officers.

After receiving his AA degree in 1966 from Ventura Community College, Robert spent three years in the US Army proudly serving as a maintenance electronics technician at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. Upon discharge from the Army, Robert served for several years as a Deputy Sheriff for Santa Barbara County and simultaneously completed his bachelors degree requirements at UCSB in 1972. Thereafter, he pursued his ultimate career ambitions in the insurance industry. As a Farmers Insurance Agent/Broker, Robert served the Camarillo Community for 28 years. Many of his former clients fondly remember his dedication and patience in dealing with their complex insurance issues.

Robert retired in 2008 but continued his dedicated service to the community through volunteerism in the field of hospice and other programs to aid seniors, such as Shop Ahoy and Meals on Wheels. It was not unusual to find Robert buying and delivering a bag of much-needed groceries to a shut-in senior.

Although he could be fiercely private at times, Robert was a very loving, generous and compassionate man. He was drawn to those who were in trouble, whether it was an insurance client experiencing a loss, or a family friend grieving the loss of a loved one, or a disabled senior facing serious illness. In these situations, Robert assumed the role of compassionate angel administering comfort, aid, and encouragement.

Robert is survived by his sister Gloria Lowry (Gary) of Copperopolis CA; his nieces Sarah Peterson of San Jose, Laura Galaza (Joaquin) of San Jose, and Bethany Addision (Chris) of Lafayette CA; his brother-in-law Tom Peterson (Patty) of San Jose, and by his many cherished friends and work-out buddies.

A private memorial service will be held upon cremation. Donations in Robert's memory can be made to Robert's favorite charities such as your local Meals on Wheels, Shop Ahoy (PO Box 3472, Camarillo CA 95011), St Judes Hospital or Shriner's Hospital. Cards of condolence can be sent to Gloria Lowry, 124 Glen View Ct, Copperopolis CA 95228.

Mr Tully was my Auto insurance agent for many years. He was a good Christian man and has a high degree of professionalism and integrity. His old Hueneme High School English Teacher ( Bill Lindquist) referred me to Bob as an insurance agent. "Tully will go to bat for you" Mr Lindquist told me. If I ever had any difficulty with the insurance company, Bob would look into it and take care of it. He was a great guy.

I was shocked to learn of Robert's Passing. We served three years in the Army together and remained friends. Even though we lost contact for over 40 years, we got together in 2112 - Robert drove all the way from California to Ohio to visit me. We then flew to Florida for a Military Reunion. I was so glad he got to meet my family and i had Great Hopes of getting to California to see him once again. Will look forward to seeing him when my time comes. A very private, but very generous man. Love you man and as you always asked of me - I'll never forget you.

I truly can not believe that he is gone. Robert holds a special place in my heart. He was my first design client, the first one who believed in me, and it Impacted me so much. I loved helping him find the perfect piece of artwork for each space. The look on his face when we would tape out a wall... I could always tell if he wanted the picture bigger by his eyebrows... and when we found the right size, he would just smile the best smile ever. It was like it transported him to the sea. I joked with him that he preferred his art "as large as humanly possible"! He was very certain about what he wanted. I liked that. Nothing was impulsive... which seemed to be true of his meticulous nature. I will miss how he always called me "Ms. Cleaveland" even though we have known each other for a few years. Such a polite, sweet man. I have joy in knowing he finally had his house exactly as he wanted it. I wish he could have enjoyed it longer. It was a gift to have known him. He will not be forgotten.

Some people touch our lives only briefly...while others leave a lasting impression and are NEVER forgotten.
Robert is one of them and was loved dearly, I will miss him so. Till we meet again, rest in Peace.

Robert was a friend of mine who I met through ShopAhoy. He was a valuable member of our volunteer team in Camarillo. Once I was able to figure Robert out...I found a very kind and giving person. Last year I led Robert to fishing the wonderful and beautiful state of Alaska. He loved it. I will truly miss him, and surely God has a special place prepared for Robert. Ed Sandell- Somis, Ca
