Edwin F. Hoff

Eureka - Funeral service and musical praise concert for Edwin F. Hoff, 85, of Eureka will be Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kyle Reinhiller will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery. There is a prayer service on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. He died March 29, 2003, at Avera Eureka Community Hospital. Edwin F. Hoff, son of Fred J. and Katherine (Neuharth) Hoff, was born November 3, 1917, in Campbell County near Eureka on the family homestead. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Hoff Country School with his brothers and sisters. He was united in marriage to Bertha Kirschenmann on December 3, 1944, in Evangelical United Brethren Church at Artas, S.D. Together, they farmed on the family homestead raising small grains and livestock until his death. Edwin was happiest when singing, playing his guitar or harmonica. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada and throughout the United States. Edwin was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church, where he was active in the choir and men's brotherhood. He was a past member of the Evangelical Brethren Church in Artas, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Survivors include his wife of Eureka; four daughters, Sharon (Wade) Winters, Jr. of Urbandale, Iowa, Bonita (Donald) Austin of Waukee, Iowa, Kathryn (David) Glader of Colton, S.D., and Gail (Dale) Duenwald of Hoven, S.D.; one son, Gary (Joan) Hoff of Eureka; one brother, Benjamin Hoff of Medford, Ore.; three sisters, Violet Lindemann and Esther Lindemann, both of Eureka, and Leah Pfahl of Papillion, Neb.; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Honorary Casketbearers will be his granddaughters. Casketbearers will be his grandsons.
