Patricia Bailey Jasper

1929 - 2017

Patricia Bailey Jasper, 88, passed away peacefully from this life on Dec. 18, 2017, with her loving, devoted husband, Frank James Jasper, by her side. Pat was a beloved wife, sweet mother and grandmother, thoughtful and loyal friend, and a tireless servant of the Lord.
Patricia was born in Everett, Wash., on April 7, 1929. She was raised in the Seattle, Wash., area and considered it home all her life.
She married her first husband, Lacy Warehime, in 1948, in Seattle. Together they had four beautiful children. While married to Lacy, she began a study of religions and was eventually introduced to and baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She remained a faithful member of the church all her life.
Patricia married Frank James Jasper in 1962, also in Seattle, where they both worked as computer programmers for Boeing. After living for a brief time in New Jersey, where they welcomed a baby daughter, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, arriving three months after the March 1964 earthquake. They had one more daughter in 1965 in Anchorage, and settled very soon in a lovely log house on a hill which remains their home today.
Pat enjoyed serving in many positions in the church and had particularly fond memories of her time as a Guide Patrol Leader in the Boy Scouts. She was responsible for writing a book of the history of the Church in Alaska. After four years of diligent writing, "A Gathering of Saints in Alaska" was published in 1983, with an update being completed and published in 1999.
Mother worked as a florist, became a computer programmer, owned an antique doll shop and restored and repaired dolls. Pat was a prolific reader, especially enjoying biographies and mysteries, participating in the same monthly book club for decades until her passing. She was an artist, crafter, fine seamstress, skilled teacher and dedicated to home and family throughout her life. She and Frank devoted one year of their lives to serving a volunteer mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Havasupai, Ariz. They were a remarkable and humble missionary couple, teaching many youths to read, helping with gardens and fellowshipping all, regardless of faith.
As an active community member, Pat ran many political campaigns, also working for many years as an election worker. Patricia enjoyed more than a decade as a member of the Chugach Electric Board of Directors, where she also served as Board President. Pat was a principled woman who often wrote articles and letters for the newspaper about issues of importance to her. She organized a committee of concerned parents who were instrumental in founding the Northern Lights ABC School, which continues to operate to this day.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Frank Jasper; six children, Carol Warehime Kennison of Seattle, Wash., Curtis (Christine) Jasper of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Carstens (Patricia) Jasper of Ketchikan, AK, Cary (Karen) Jasper of Tenino, Wash., Karen Rawlins of Anchorage and Allison (Bruce) Smith of Anchorage; and her siblings, Kathy Dennis, Nancy Haymond and Randy Stewart. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; stepfather; and her brothers, Oscar Bailey, Ted Bailey and Jimmy Stewart.
Funeral services will be held in her honor and to celebrate her remarkable life at the LDS Strawberry Chapel on Dec. 22, 2017, at 5 p.m., with a viewing at 4 p.m. All are welcome.
