Patrick Joseph Breslin
AGE: 93 • Escondido, Calif.
Patrick J. Breslin, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in a nursing home in Escondido, Calif. Patrick was born March 17, 1918 in Jersey City. He was one of four children born to David and Annie Breslin: Patrick, Charles, Michael and Margaret. Of the four, Patrick's sister, Margaret survives him. Patrick served in the Army during World War II with the 1st AntiAircraft Artillery Guided Missile Battalion. Prior to serving in the Army, Patrick married Mary Pantages. She was the love of his life even after her passing on Sept. 16, 1986. They had two children, Patricia and Timothy. Patrick had an incredible life that centered on family. Between his wife, Mary's 11 brothers and sisters, his father and his brothers and sister, and all the nephews, nieces and cousins, Patrick was surrounded by a large extended family that had more than enough love to go around. Upon Patrick's retirement, he and Mary moved to Ocean, to be near their daughter, Patricia Lynn's family. Patrick and Mary had the pleasure of watching their granddaughter, Maureen grow into a fine young woman. When Mary passed away, Patrick went to Escondido, Calif. to live near his son, Timothy's family. He had the pleasure of watching his grandson, Sean grow into a fine young man. Patrick made yearly trips back to New Jersey to stay with his daughter, Patricia and her husband Kevin. He had the enjoyment of watching all four great-grandchildren, Brenna, Daniel, Olivia, and Patrick as they went from toddlers to children. Patrick's love of fishing was rivaled only by his love of baseball, which he instilled in several generations that followed him. He coached Little League in California well into his late 70's and early 80's. On his 80th Birthday, he threw out the first pitch at a San Diego Padre's game and easily reached the plate. Patrick was a quiet man that left an impression on all he interacted with. You came away knowing you were loved and cared about. He will be missed, but his memories will still bring smiles to those who knew him.
Patrick's viewing will be from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at John Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. Interment on Friday, July 8 will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38173-0704 or The Braille Institute, 4555 Executive Drive, La Jolla, CA 92121.
