I had my braces done by Dr. Addiego when I was 12, in 1962. He gave me a white doctor's shirt that looked like the one Dr. Ben Casey wore (the tv show) because my mother and I thought he looked like him and we both loved the show. Funny how you remember things like that - shows how nice he was. I'm sending my deepest sympathies to the family. Thought you'd like to know he was remembered by the children he took care of, even though it was almost 40 years ago.

Dr. Addiego, You will be truly missed by myself. Being friends with Biagina since we were 9 years old and you always treated me like one of your own children. I have always had an enormous amount of respect for you and your family. You have raised a loving and accepting family that I know you were extremely proud of and you should be. Although I haven't seen you in many years, you were thought of on a daily basis and I wish I could have said this to you in person, but thank you for all the opportunities you have afforded me. It was never over looked and was greatly appreciated by me. You gave me opportunities that would never happen, if it were not for you and your wonderful family. My sympathy goes out to your entire family and everyone will be in my prayers.

In reading my words on Ben's life, I wondered why I hadn't spoken first of his fierce love of his wife. I realized it was because when one thought of Ben, Karen was automatically a part of the thought. They were one, in a romance that grew as time went on. It was a beautiful thing to see.

Ben was a Collingswood High school football hero of mine way back when ... Ben was a great athlete. Collingswood went crazy when, in college, he scored the first touch down against Army in years. He was also a Lifeguard at
the old Collingswood swimming pool. Ben saved a girl from drowning and resuscitated her with the old arm lift method. She was later to become my sister-in-law. As I said He will always be the hero I remember. Ben was one of those blessings we were proud to have known. God bless his family with comfort and love.

Even on an island noted for its wonderful characters, Ben Addiego stood out. Nobody loved to fish more, cook more, have fun with his kids, grandkids, family and friends more, and just generally live life more fully than most people can even dream of. Bon voyage, Ben. It's been a pleasure knowing you.

Ben-a. I don't know where to start. Maybe just a simple "thank you." Thank you for being like a Father to me... since I was 2. Thank you for teaching me everything you did. Thank you for showing me how to be strong, smart, and take absolutely zero crap-from anyone. Thank you for showing me what it means to be responsible. Thank you for feeding me, and helping me add at least 20 pounds of pasta weight over the years to my waistline. LOL Oh, thanks for trying to teach me how to cook. Thanks to you, Ben-a, I can actually do more than toast bread. Yes, you taught me many necessary and handy things, including how to have patience. I think that is the most important lesson you taught me. Patience--something I learned from you when you showed me how to clean a reel on the porch at the Tuckernuck Hilton one summer. One of my fondest memories ever. You taught me how to "listen," which, as you know, was no easy task. Mostly, thank you for accepting me, and loving me like a daughter, even with all of my flaws. Thank you for welcoming my son Lee and me into your wonderful, loving family. You will always be Lee's PopPop, (regardless of when you accidentally tripped over him in the living room.) LOL You and Karina had about the happiest marriage I have ever seen. Never a dull moment Ben-a. Always something going on at Number 9. Oh, thanks for straightening my teeth too, and teaching Mimmo how to straighten my son's teeth, (even with Lee being dentally challenged.) You taught us so much about how to love and cherish life, family, friends, good food, and fishing! I am so lucky to have known you. Love you Ben-a. Miss you so.
Joy-a.

The man's love for fishing made me come back again and again to fish in front of his house. What a great guy and a great family. My thoughts are with you all.

To the Addiego family,
We are sorry for the loss of your loved one. May the comforting words from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and the fond memories of your loved one continue to provide comfort to you.
May you find a measure of peace in God's promises found in the last book of the Holy Scriptures 21:4..."And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

I didn't know you well, Ben, but I met you a few times and everything everyone says about you is so true. I've known your wife Karen since she was 13 yrs. old and I married her brother Bill. She is my middle son Craig's godmother and of course my oldest son Bill's aunt. You were a wonderful husband and father and grandfather and an all around nice guy Rest with the Lord.
